He's actually cooled off a bit since league play started.

Not really.

He’s hitting .370 in conference play with a 1.019 OPS. Hasn’t hit as many home runs (3) but he’s still hitting

Lol what the frick are you talking about?

You think someone with Paxton Klings athleticism who's hitting .350 with 20 jacks won't go pro because he's in the big 10?

I love dudes who watch football show up and explain how the baseball draft works.

You're 100% wrong. He absolutely goes pro at that clip and he's likely a top 3 round pick too

He will be high 1st rounder in next draft

King will get drafted but he’s not sniffing the first round. Maybe 3rd to the 5th but the first is a long shot.

I stand corrected unless he was hitting over .400 prior to league play

.348 BA overall
.369 BA in conference play

1 HR per 12 ABs overall
1 HR per 22 ABs conference

1.096 OPS overall
1.019 OPS conference

It's a gamble

Doing well at psu in the big 10
Sucked at lsu in the sec

That's the gamble.

Sure he can play in single A. Anything above that will have to be proven.

Stanfield and Frey are the only two RH OF'ers. And they do whatever they can to keep Frey off of the field. Not really contrarian point but ok.

#1 I dont know why people keep acting like he's only doing this in the B10, which is still one of the better conferences overall in college baseball. No its not SEC or ACC level, but it's still Top 4/5 in the country in any given year. Also, he didnt just struggle against SEC here, he struggled against everyone. Going into SEC play last year he was hitting .226 against the likes of VMI, NIU, Stony Brook, Xavier and NDSU. HE couldnt hit anyone. He has obviously improved a lot this year.

#2 The Big Ten had 16 Top 10 round selections last year. 28 overall. He is OBVIOUSLY getting drafted this year and it will be in the Top 10 rounds. The guy is a 5 tool type of player which MLB teams covet extremely highly (for obvious reasons). Now that he's shown he can turn around the bat, plenty of MLB teams will be all over him and fairly early on in the draft this year. No he wont be a 1st or probably 2nd rounder, but dont be surprised if he's a Top 5 rounder.

This is like if Sam Dutton was in the Big Ten and putting up the season he's having everyone would just pass it off and say well he sucked here, only doing well now because B10 not SEC. Except he's at Auburn and is their ace having overall a really good season. Some guys just get better, it happens.

Frey is a big, fast and has a strong arm as an outfielder. I’m not sure if his ball skills are what Johnson expects but that is all I can think of TBH. Johnson commented on MicD-up with Mahtook that the catch Brown made at OU was elite (Mahtook talked about how difficult that was even for a MLB outfielder). The one at Nicholls was great as well. Don’t couldn’t just a function of the talent they have with 3 CFs playing. Josh Pearson cannot be a better outfielder than Frey.

I may be a bit biased tho because I have pumped up Frey since he came in as a freshman. He is fluid.

That’s what I meant by ball skills. I have not seen enough of his to say how good or bad he is. I do not he is faster than everyone but Stanfield in that outfield. People don’t realize how fast he moves down the line even on moderate hit balls, they are close plays at first.
I guess he could transition to first.

Disagree - SEC is not just better. SEC likes to play Gorilla Ball - mash mash mash. That eventually runs out. You have to have elite defense and elite pitching...beats Gorilla ball every time.
