Plus:

4 other CWS appearances (and 1 runner up)
4 SEC Championships
6 SEC Tournament Championships
And made it to 3 Super Regionals and 4 Regionals in 7 other seasons.

I’m not bashing Bianco, but you’d have to be a complete idiot to think we messed up by not hiring him. He was a fall back option in my opinion, not a front runner.
Paul was a better coach, but towards the end he needed to go.

I’m proud of Bianco, too. He’s a very good coach, and so is Paul Mainieri. There is a lot of luck in baseball. Skip won five championships, but two were on walk-offs. It would not take much bad luck for Skip to have had only three. And that was in an era in which college baseball was really only about 10 teams.

They were a sub .500 SEC team halfway through the season

And what would the reaction on this board have been? I’m sure you would have been “ have we have time to turn it around “ right?

had the brand and players to rebuild very quick to compete.

And still do. The brand is the best in the game.

Never said that at any point. Johnson walking into a program with 6 National Championships in the last 30 years is a little different that Bianco walking into one that didn’t even have a 1000 seat stadium.

But you are acting like because he finally won a national championship that excuses the fact he only went to Omaha one time the previous 21 years.

He took over a terrible program I understand that but 22 years is a long time to turn around a program. He has had number one recruiting classes and plenty of talent yet still would end up short.

I think he is a really good coach but people are excusing a lot of things in his time at Ole Miss that they would never excuse a coach at LSU for doing. There are people that think Johnson won’t get it done because he didn’t make it to Omaha in his first season.

Yes, Smoke didn’t do it any favors but the team in 2009 had a lot of upper class men that Smoke recruited and coached.

Really? Who?

Let me help you and answer that for you.
ZERO regular contributors in the 2009 lineup ever played a single game for Smoke

you want to see the entire list of people that played in the Championship series the ever got even so much as one at bat with Smoke as coach?

Chris McGhee
Buzzy Haydel
Nick Pontiff

that's it.
and all 3 were seniors subbed into the last game in the 9th in a blowout.

now on the pitching staff, I'll give you Louis Coleman.
and no way in hell do we win it without him, I agree.

But 1 guy does not really fit your description of "a lot"

note: Byrd and Cain both also appeared in championship series and logged some time under Smoke.

That is a tad too simplistic a view. How many teams in the 90s were actually pumping money into a baseball program.

For those bashing Bianco for being at Ole Miss for 21 years before winning it all,

Bianco was a game away from being fired this year. You can be glad for him going on a Cinderella run and he seems like a good guy, but people really need to relax and stop overexaggerating what he is.

And he’s still a better coach than Bianco. Fact!

That’s what I mean we have the brand , resources and commitment from the University to compete at the highest level. Commitment being the reason we got both Johnson’s here at LSU.
Think about it we pulled a coach from a blue blood college baseball program and a really good MLB pitching coach not just because of the money but the commitment to winning Titles.
LSU is never in shambles.

By contrast Bertman also took over a terrible/non existent program and did a LOT more in LESS than 22 years

I didn’t want to bring up Bertman because I think it’s unfair to compare someone to one of if not the best coach in the history of the sport.

But Paul made it to Omaha a few times which gave him the opportunity to win it. One thing too, is I never saw him take the field not once.

He wasn't a joke of a coach, nor a lazy one. I wish he had taken the ND position.
