re: Paul Manieri should have ZERO influence on the next hire

I have no issues with Woodward seeking out guidance and advice from Skip and/or PM. It would be stupid to ignore 60 years of coaching experience from 2 of the most successful college baseball coaches of all time.
That said, Woodward is the AD and should be able to make his decision however he sees fit. Skip nor PM should be pushing for anyone to be hired.

I don't think PM has any connection to Link Jarrett
The track record shows history of offensive success at all his stops
Just because he is head coach at Notre Dame doesn't tie him to PM
PM has been away from Notre Dame for over a decade
Both O'Connor and Godwin have direct ties to PM

I'm pulling for Godwin.
Winning like that at ECU is not easy
you know they currently hold the record for most regional appearances without making a trip to Omaha.
pretty much every coach they’ve had for the last 60 years or so has won at almost the exact same level as Godwin.

Who is saying Mainieri has any influence on the hire?
He won a 641 games, reached the CWS five times, played for two NC and won one
Yes, the last few years were somewhat disappointing. But Jesus Christ, Mainieri's tenure at LSU, overall, was pretty good (even though it was time for a change)
I doubt the AD is just waiting around just for a CHANCE to interview the guy who is, right now, arguably the best HC in the game. If Woodward is "waiting" to talk to Corbin, then there is at least some indication Corbin may have some degree of interest in the job.
It would make zero sense to hire the only active HC with multiple national titles? One who is still playing for a chance at a 3rd? Would it make zero sense to hire Nick Saban just because he's 69?
You sound kind of irrationally angry

This dude better not be waiting around to fricking interview 60 year old Tim Corbin. It's not happening and shouldn't. The guy is retiring at Vanderbilt and sooner rather than later.

Well tell us more Mr. Smoke Laval.

quote:Yes THAT hire. You thought you did something there?
You mean the one that won a CWS, played for another, and had a strech of 6 yrs straight as a top 8 national seed? Not to mention took the worst team at LSU in 2 decades to a Super Regional.
THAT ND hire??
1 championship in the last 15 years when you are the head coach of the LSU baseball program? That is underachieving. His coaching decisions and lack of energy and passion has been horrible since after the 2017 CWS championship loss, especially this year. That team took themselves to a super regional. He almost fricked it up.

K
Just pointing out that 99% of other teams if they had the chance, would take LSU's level of "mediocrity", as you put it.
But by all means Mr. La Russa, you sure showed us

Corbin is the best active coach in my opinion as well. But he wont be active for long lol. And it doesn't make sense for Tim Corbin. For him to leave Vanderbilt, to retire with LSU. Quit fantasizing.

Now that, I did not know.

I gotta back you on this one FM. I'm looking at all of your championship rings from your many SEC, Regional and Super Regional titles not to forget your many trips to the CWS and of course your stack of National Championship bling.
Who better than you to critique this search?

PM failed the program. And even though Bertman made LSU baseball, he failed the fans when he hired PM. From 5 national championships in a decade to 1 in 15 years? Unacceptable.
Posted on 6/24/21 at 12:42 pm to LSUFanMan22
What if that "influence" is selling a guy who isn't sure if he should take the job?
Posted on 6/24/21 at 12:42 pm to Gray Tiger
Did I say I should be the coach? I definitely know the game of baseball better than most, including yourself.

Spoken like someone who doesnt understand how parity in the sport has increased exponentially.
A run like LSUs in the 90s will never happen in college baseball again.

bullshite! If Woodward has sense he will utilize the baseball experts in LSU's family to arrive at a great decision. That includes CPM.

As he should. That would be absolutely ignorant to not seek the advice of 2 of the most prolific coaches in college baseball history, who are literally in the building with you
But this yahoo with 44 posts on TD, DOES NOT AGREE!!

Im4LSU, try to be nicer. Fan Man knows baseball better than most. He even said it himself, so he's got that going for him.

Right. His humility is what I admire most
Aww man, he logged off! Probably had to get back to the Yankees draft room.
