Very. I used to talk a lot about how awesome it would be to have Arenado and Goldy on the same team because they were stuck on teams out west that no one paid attention to but were the best in the game at their positions.
It's about 5 years later than I wish it would have happened, but I'm excited nonetheless.

False. You can't be something that doesn't exist.

Interesting moves to say the least. Cranford is hands down the best defensive SS they have and has outhit Arnold this spring. Cranford must be in the doghouse for something. There are several positions that will be a revolving door. We know this lineup won’t stick

Tells me there is a concern with defense at SS (Arnold ) or 3rd (Safford ). Bianco would move there for his glove and presumably push Arnold to compete with Safford for third.
shite show IMO. He had a pass last year to get it straight. Pitching should be fine, but if we can’t bring in guys to field up the middle and at least hit 275, then he has to go. The lack of power over the last 11 years has been one thing, but if we can’t put a SS out there that can field and hit 275 , then that’s on CPM.

He’s been saying there is a concern on the left side.
Bianco isn’t a SS & we will learn that quickly if he has to play there

This tinkering to get a little better has not resulted in us being very good offensively, it just brings back bad memories for me. In the past we have tinkered our way from being below average to slightly below average.
I’m no Mainieri apologist, but this is a silly complaint. His bullpen decisions and need to force action through hit-and-runs will drive me up the wall, but his willingness to shuffle lineups is probably his greatest attribute as a coach. By the end of the year, I think he has always found the best lineup combination to win games. That only happens because he’s willing to shuffle lineups early in the year to give guys opportunities to show what they can do when the lights come on. Your characterization of this ability is extremely dismissive. It’s not something every coach actually has

quote:waayy too sensitive. I dont care that he shuffles the line up, no one should. I do think that HAVING to shuffle the line up is concerning, and shuffling 4-5 less than average hitters around will not make a bunch of difference. That may not be the case here. That is why I posted it exactly as I did.

Then I’m not sure I understand your concern and I don’t want to put words in your mouth. You’re worried that he’s shuffling the lineup before the first game is played?

Mole Bianco won’t play but directional schools, too heavy and

I am not worried. But in my opinion if you are already concerned about a linchpin position, it is reflective of years past. In my opinion there are about 4-5 positions that should be rock solid thru the season. C, SS, CF, RF. If you are still unsure two days out. It is not a vote of confidence.
Tinkering is great, tinkering a very good team into a great team is wonderful. That is the sign of a great coach. Tinkering a middle of the road team into a slightly better middle of the road team will not reestablish us as a force. And if you are going to compete with Vandy and UF this year you better be locked and loaded pretty damn quick.

This is surprising. Shortstop is definitely not sounding good. I thought helmers starting at 3rd was almost as surprising

Anybody remember 2010 when Wet Delatte, Grant Dozar, Alex Edward, and Beau Didier all had trouble at the position? That scarred Mainieri for years ala the outfield in 2012.
Fielding % of each
Delatte - 0.891
Dozard - 0.929
Edward - 0.942
Didier - 0.844

We don't have a premier non-conference opponent this year. The only two games we play that will give us a bit of what we will see in the SEC are Notre Dame and Baylor.
So basically, every game until the SEC is a midweek game and we're going to see some extra weird shite until people step up.

All this tells me is Simon will be your shortstop next year and you will have two two-way players in Simon and Hellmers on the left side.
And I am being 82% serious. LOL.

Thought i read in the fall that notre dame was supposed to fall off from last year, and they werent some world beater last year. So really its just baylor. Not that i can complain at this point, just hoping to see any type of college baseball at this point

I’ve been telling y’all Helmers would crack the lineup. I thought it would be 1B, but Helmers was a 3B as a sophomore.
