You guys forget that he didn’t really give Chad Jones many opportunities prior to the Auburn series.

He did before he left for spring practice. Also, tell me which guy to bench in the outfield to get Jones more playing time in 2009:
Jared Mitchell
Ryan Schimpf
Mikie Mahtook
Leon Landry
The fact that Mainieri brought him in to pitch in an SEC game after one bullpen session and then let him pitch in Omaha kind of dispels the notion he gets his feelings hurt when guys play two sports. That and the fact Mitchell was a 3 years starter and Ware started SEC games for us. Hell, he even gave Jones an at bat when we were up big against Arkansas in the CWS

Because the other options were Wes Toups who transferred. And Bianco who hit 0.074 last year.
Yes, Hampton beat out Bianco and Toups in two or three weeks proving Mainieri would play a two sports guy.
Fast forward to 2021. Toups and Cabrera are gone, but we now have Crews and Drost and Dugas along with Gio. And Hampton Iis trying to beat out several of those guys despite being part time and injured.

Beloso had also been getting plenty of reps in LF.

Is this thread seriously still going?

sure, in practice. Beloso has only played DH this year in actual games. He only played 1B last year. Mainieri told him to lose weight to play outfield but he hasn't actually played there during games yet.

Thanks for making my point. Chad Jones was a pitcher PM put into the outfield. He didn’t use him at his natural position for whatever reason. I can’t figure why you guys love PM so damn much. Y’all can’t admit he should have given MH 10 more AB over guys like Sanford and Bianco. I will check back in after the third SEC series. Let’s see how much the team SO/BB has improved by then.

Are you an idiot?
Chad in high school barely pitched.

quote:To me Hampton's best chance at getting playing time while he was removing the rust from his swing was as a pinch runner. He can fly.
we have much more talent at the OF positions than we did last year, and Hampton found himself behind the 8-ball after missing fall ball again.
But then again the first time he was inserted as a pinch runner this season was in the opening series Louisiana Tech game.
He went in to run for Travinski after Hayden singled to load the bases in the 5th inning.
Crews followed Travinski's hit with a single and Hampton almost made it to third base before he looked up and saw Jordan Thompson already standing on third base.
Hampton was thrown out in a run down between second and third base.

Look at his 2007 draft report out of High school. LHP. 90 mph fastball. Y’all are some special folks. The guy pitched in HS and travel ball.

Chad Jones was definitely more of an outfielder in high school and travel ball. Seen him play many games at that time and was always in the outfield

Where did I say he didn't pitch?
Out of high school he was projected to be a corner outfielder, middle of the order bat.
Idiot.

That’s my point. Hampton wasn’t even in the 2nd tier of OFs. Dugas, Gio, Crews, Drost, Sanford, and Beloso were all ahead...then you have Bianco, Morgan can play OF, Safford.

He was both in high school. He was recruited to play outfield, not pitch. Him being able to pitch for us was a bonus.

Whatever. You lack of knowledge of actual FACTS is glaring. Keep using 2nd grade words to project out because you don’t know stats or facts big guys. Read his 2007 draft report. Guess that’s not factual enough for you.
