I don’t think LSU would be the only school deposed. Defense would have a field day.

White Tiger, no doubt everyone has an opinion and like mine, it is 90% speculation.

The problem I see for LSU is that it likely cannot win the long game. When all 16 members of the Conference voted a week ago to formalize a long standing policy regarding athletes in the disputed classifications, the die was cast. The SEC is a voluntary organization and has an inherent right to make its own rules.

Assuming the athletes prevail in the state court action, which I anticipate will happen, the elephant in the room is the federal lawsuit filed today in Alabama. Discovery and depositions will be forthcoming in the future along with a tro staying the state court decision.

The penalties are simply too great to risk everything on a very tenuous argument in federal district court. I suspect if this matter continues on its current track in a year or two a lot of good folks in Louisiana will look back and say, what were we thinking.

I think having LSUs attorneys parade every other coach and Ad through there as well as all the crooked fricks at the sec and have them testify under oath about their recruiting practices would be far more damaging to everyone

Discovery that subpoenas records from other schools could be really fun. Don't forget it was some State fan that FOIA requested Ole Miss phone records that took down Hugh Freeze. I bet with AI and some of the autistics here on the rant, a lot of people across the conference would be begging the SEC to drop the suit.

That may be. I marvel at the absurdity of the SEC suing LSU. If there is one or more explicit rules covering this area then there is no need for a suit. If not, well…who are Sankey and the SEC to stir the pot? Claiming that LSU “recruited” professional players distinguishes LSU in what way. All that said I am not thoroughly familiar with the facts but people should be free to associate as they choose. If all in the SEC want to draw a new line fine, but they have to stipulate as much going forward. If other conferences play differently that will put pressure on all to do the same or be at a disadvantage.

Personally I do not think having 26 year-old and older players ic consonant with the spirit of college athletics. The players should be all students in good standing but money power has moved everything way past that.

Cheers

I can tell you this. This entire circus is intended to create a single centralized authority which will dictate everything about college athletics. It will make the NCAA look like a facilitator of open and fair competition.
