Just had another good outing in Cape Cod yesterday while hitting 96 on the gun:

5.0 IP, 6 H, 7 K, 1 BB, 1 ER

In Cape Cod this summer:
12.2 IP, 8 H, 22 K, 4 BB, 3 ER

Very good numbers considering he is playing in the Cape Cod League. If he can develop feel for a good secondary pitch, he could certainly be a candidate for one of our starting roles. Coach Johnson is definitely giving the team options with the new roster additions. Geaux Tigers!

He is showing good control. And the Cod is the best college summer league.

Damn.. almost 2 Ks per inning. That is fricking legit

But I will Hold my breath. I read for 3 straight years how awesome and much improved hal Hughes was and it never showed up come baseball season

I thought Cape Cod wasn't as competitive as it used to be and usually favored pitching due to players adapting to wood bats?

Or am I misremembering? I'm no expert.

ETA:

Still pumped about this guy and the other arms we're bringing in. We will have a lot more to choose from.

Hal Hughes hit .170 in the cape between his sophomore and junior season at LSU

As bad as Hal Hughes was at the plate, and it was really bad, he still was better than Milazzo and it isn't really that close

Different timeframes to get the ABs similar sample size

Hughes (freshman year): BA .221, OBP .292, OPS .591 (190 ABs)

Milazzo (first 2 years): BA .148, OBP .253, OPS .460 (169 ABs)

Considering his command was the real question the low number of walks is encouraging.

Why do people keep making this up?

A) Hughes had one decent week on the Cape one season. And it was in the playoffs when most of the other players weren't there anymore.

B) Hughes only played at LSU for 3 seasons, which means he only had two summers to actually "improve" over what we saw the previous year.

The guy is gone. It's time to stop shitting on him.

I shall never stop.

People expected Hughes to be the next Robertson who was the next Stevenson. It was possible but never happened so people love the example he can provide.

But that's never who he was supposed to be. He was never a big hitter. He was never supposed to be a guy that started as a freshman. He wasn't really a guy that was supposed to start much in general. He was brought in as a program guy but either people got hurt or people played worse in front of him so they had to keep trotting him out there.
