go on some type of sabbatical? That article is going to get picked up all over the USA and folks are going to assume the worst.
Before you hit 'submit' on "poli board", "OT",etc, IF LSU was to close even for a semester, LSU sports would become SMU II. And unlike SMU, since this would be an academic matter--granted a financial one and not a scandalous one involving grading,etc--our degrees would become a foot short of being worthless.

putting pressure on Jindal and the state legislature...

President is just trying to get some $$$ for the school. It will all be over in a month when legislative session gets going and they give LSU the money they deserve. Till then, it's a full on media frenzy to make sure they get as much money as possible.

if LSU shuts down for a semester, particularly a football semester.....Jindal and every other state level elected official wouldn't be able to be elected to alligator shite inspector down in lower middle-of-nowhere!!!!!!!

It's bullshite hyperbole using football as a crutch to prop up his argument and get people's attention.
The university won't shut down. Ever. Except maybe in a zombie apocalypse, even then it would probably be a safe zone where the military would stage from.

Jindal happened.
This. The hyperbole may be scare tactics, but it wouldn't be happening without Jindal's malfeasance in office.

The local media has deep contempt for Jindal and is trying to make him look bad. Sheeople are eating it up too...

The cuts to higher education during Jindal's time in office have been brutal. It's to the point where if his proposed budget were to pass we no longer have public universities we have privately funded ones. When Jindal took office the state funded 70% of the cost of going to college at our state universities. In just 7 years it's changed to 30%. This is before current proposals.

I think the scare tactics everyone refers to is people assume 82% of LSUs budget would be cut. That is how the article makes it sound. But the state only funds 13% of LSU's budget. So really you are only cutting 82% of 13%, so roughly 10% of the budget.
So acting like the "entire university would collapse and football would be no more" sounds a little harsh for just needing to replace 10% of funding to keep the school operating at full capacity not missing a beat. Lots of things could be done to help cushion the blow if the "worst case scenario" is 10%. That's an entirely different discussion though ha.

You might be the only supporter he has left.

More of the same scare tactics that have been going on in Louisiana forever. They will also be putting hospital patients out on the street. Blah, blah, blah....
