Ol boy can pitch. We need to jump on them from the start. And as easy as it sounds lay off the low and outside pitch. Our 1-3 hitters are key to winning tonight.
Let’s ride.

HR Per Game Wake Forest (4th) - 2.06 LSU (2nd) - 2.11

The good news is that the Tigers have a more balanced power hitting team top to bottom, so they can’t do much pitching around, whereas Wake has two rocket launchers who must be handled accordingly.

They have nothing to prove. Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas, Aggie, OSU, Kentucky

We have skins on the wall. Go out, play loose, play fast. Execute fundamentals.

We have nothing to prove. We've played the best of the best all year and we are consistently beating those teams. It's going to be a good game but don't be surprised if we come out on top. The key is Ty Floyd. We know what he can do. He just needs to settle in and locate his pitches better but with the umps ive been seeing, he should be able to get away with some calls. Tigers by 3

LSU's offense is coming around at the right time. I think the pitching has improved. I need to forget the pitching slump at the end of the season. They have been really good pitching since the regionals. Pitching is about confidence to hit your locations. I think the pitching staff came to realize that our bats are not going to cover their butts in the post season. Cooper was a dawg on the mound against the hillbillies the other night. Geaux Tigers!

True which is why I hope the batters focus more on making good contact vs going yard on every pitch. If they get a good pitch to drive then great, but take the hits when they are there. That being said, it also seems we take the first pitch too often. If they are going to serve up the first pitch then make them pay.

I'm nitpicking bc the team is hitting very well, but it also looks like there are opportunities to really open games up with a little better approach at the plate.

Some of y’all act like LSU hasn’t played a single good team all year.

Wake is good. But LSU has played good teams all year.

LSU isn’t some mid major team who just lucked into Omaha. They were #1 until 3-4 weeks before the season ended.

They played and beat A bunch of realy good teams to get here.

LSU doesn’t have to prove anything. They just gotta go play their game.

Wake forest isn't battle tested and they play in a teeball stadium.

And if we get to 8 runs, (if you've watched the other CWS games you will understand) can our bullpen finish it off for us?

Gavin Guidry is gonna be ready to come out with a vengeance after throwing only one pitch to TN for a 2 run bomb and getting pulled out the game. That's been eating at him for 2 days now.

Hartle's last 4 starts

Virginia Tech: 6.0 IP, 7 Hits; 4 ER, 5 SO; 0 BB; 2 HR
Miami: 4.1 IP, 7 Hits; 4 ER, 5 SO; 1 BB; 1 HR
George Mason: 4.2 IP, 3 Hits; 1 ER, 9 SO; 3 BB; 0 HR
Alabama: 6.0 IP, 7 Hits; 4 ER, 11 SO; 1 BB; 3 HR

Prior to those last 4 starts, he had only given up more than 3 ER in a game once...in 13 starts.

Wake's offense is plenty good enough to overcome 4 runs. But you can make the argument he is on a downward trend in terms of his season stats. On the flip side, you could argue Floyd is on an upward trend in his last 4-5 starts relative to his season prior.

This will be the best hitting team he has faced all season (by far). Of course, the same can be said for Floyd.

The optimist in me says the Kentucky start for Floyd was an outlier. The first breaking ball he tried to throw slipped out of his hand very badly (because of the sweat pitching at 5:00 pm...in June...in BR). He struggled to find the feel on the breaking pitch from that moment on and was never fully confident in throwing it. It will be hot in Omaha today at first pitch. But the swamp-like humidity in the area won't be present. So I'm thinking Floyd will be ok finding the breaking ball today.

We better be able to effectively throw something other than fastballs tonight or the outfielders better bring lawn chairs to sit and watch the balls leave the yard.

(In the regular season):

Wake is 14-3 vs NCAAT teams
LSU is 22-10 vs. NCAAT teams

This actually makes their pitching statistics more impressive. LSU can certainly win this game, but I think people who are just assuming that we will hang 10 runs on them are being pretty optimistic.

Not if those runs come in half a game. If Hartle doesnt get out of the 5th, we win. As he has in 2 of his last four

Their pitching is very impressive and is best in the country. They have the clear advantage in the bullpen and accumulation of high end starters. But it works both ways and their hitting numbers are overinflated due to the ballpark they play in. Wake Forest struggled hitting the ball a long way against Stanford and needed help to get runs across late to win. LSU has less problems against a much tougher Tennessee staff. It's best on best when WF is on the mound and LSU is at the plate.

But looking at numbers and taking into account strength of schedule and ballpark size, maybe LSUs advantage at the plate is being underappreciated.

This is true, but I remember a story about Skip working with a pitcher to develop a new pitch all season and he realized he finally had control of it in the national championship game. That pitcher was Laxton. So, never assume the last performance will dictate the next performance.

Point noted, but LSU has given up 66 homeruns, Floyd has 15 of those.
