It's quite simple: Coach from the sidelines.

Leave the elevated comforts of the pressbox and get to the level of your players. Encourage and coach them with your physical presence instead of through a squawk box. For those doubting my superior gridiron intellect; let me ask you something.

Remember when we implored Les Miles to make OC Gary Crowton coach from the sidelines in 2009 and 2010? We were only met with dismissive grumblings from Miles saying he would consider it. Instead of adopting the obvious solution, we got an inept and outdated offense. Cost us a lot of games with a great defensive squad that let down time after time. Do you see the parallels people?

I rest my case.

Aranda always coached from the sideline.

House won’t do that, he knows LSU fans will target him.

Calling defenses is different than calling offenses. One is ALOT more reactive than the other.

Also, I don't think encouragement is the issue with the defense. Unless he brings talent with him from the press box to the field that move isn't THE fix.

Players need to get lined up correctly; that's 100% on them.

They need to take better angles, they need to wrap up and stop going for the hit and/or strip, they need to be play the area in their zone and not a person in the zone. None of that gets fixed with House on the sidelines.

Problem with that is the defensive coaches can tell more and can see more of the offensive alignments and how our defense is reacting from up high

The fact that you think that House's location on gameday is even remotely a factor for out defense shows your superior gridiron intellect is in fact false. Actually it's much easier to call defense from up top.

Our defenses three biggest issues.

Gap integrity
Tackling
Lack of studs in the secondary that can play man

This is kind of gibberish. You suggest a coach do something and your reason is another coach did not?

Well, let me use your addled logic against you. Do you remember when E and Brady coached from the pressbox in 2019 and how good the offense was? Therefore, House should stay up there.

The job of coaching players and pumping them up usually falls to the position coaches. The OC and DC are primarily calling plays and adjusting to the other team. If they are not in the press box, they would be relying on someone to radio down the other team's personnel & alignment information to them. You let your DC (or OC) coach from wherever they are most comfortable.

We are in the 7th game and not really any improvement. Auburn has a veteran line so we will know more after this weekend. PJ is helping a lot but still a lot of work to do. Secondary is pathetic. Need more of a push up front and blitz more.

In my playbook, "comfortable" means settling. It means accepting mediocrity. Well, mdomingue, I won't settle for anything less than stellar. If E and Brady wanted to coach from their deluxe apartment in the sky they earned that right. My so-called "gibberish" is just common sense. Play. Better. Defense.

I rest my case.

That wasn't your suggestion. That is simple and also correct.

Sorry about the gibberish statement, been in a snarky mood the last, I don't know, decade or so trying to do better but not always successful

totally disagree. the problem with the dbs in zone coverage is that the dbs DO NOT cover the receiver in their zone area, they cover the grass in the zone. Just the opposite of what you propose.
How many time have we seen receivers catch passes standing still with 3 defenders completely around him guarding grass. Let one cover grass and another guard cover closely anyone in the zone area. Otherwise nothing is going to change.

Are you under the impression that you can't be a fan / have watched the team before creating an account here?

You can disagree but thats not how you play zone defense. It's not about PBU's, it's about keeping the ball in front of them and making the tackles

Coaching from the sideline isn’t going to modernize a scheme

Or else what? Hold your breath till you turn blue?

These "demands" on the coaches and/or players from people who obviously have never played any significant football are hilarious.
