I don't think you're right about that. Those clauses are in the contract to protect both parties, and income is income.

Solid post. I'm pretty sure BK has to make a good faith effort to find employment after termination. As you pointed out, if BK just wants to retire, LSU would be in a solid position to negotiate a significant reduction in that buyout.

I've got to believe LSU has lawyers well versed in this. We can hope.

Les who spoke like yoda minus the wisdom and ate grass put a better product on the field than BK has.

Les might have made me want to beat my head into a wall not adapting to the times, waiting on the secret playbook etc. but atleast Les teams were fundamentally sound and never called soft. I can’t say that about BK.

The ultimate insult to a guy like BK is to (correctly) point out that Les fricking Miles was a superior coach of the small things/fundamentals

Correct. There is that angle, too.

Hopefully the media keeps pushing him to State College.

Rhule just got his arse kicked and Cignetti just signed a lifetime contract. BK is the only answer.

Whoever you hire next, they have to first and foremost coach football. I believe the sport has largely outgrown the “CEO” model that was relied upon when BK was hired.

The coach isn’t the top of the org. chart anymore. Gotta be a coach, because a lot of the other stuff that the HC ran just 10 years ago is no longer the preview of the HC.

The biggest hope, and unknown, is that BK set the organization up for his successor to succeed, similar to how Freeman has been able to launch off of the BK foundation at ND.

I don’t see it happening, but it would be an interesting turn of events.

This was never a viable model.

Why do you people post shite like this as if you know what you’re talking about? His contract is publicly available. Go read it.

And the three (now four) retards who upvoted your dumb post should read his contract too.
You understand that most of the posters on this board were lucky to graduate a public high school in Louisiana?

Start there and then process.

While I agree that Kelly is weak in this area, comparing it to Miles is like the tallest midget analogy. Miles was always results based and was fine winning ugly, which worked for a long time. Until it didn’t, at which point, his lack of attention to detail led to more losses against teams he should have beaten and got him run off. Which is exactly what is happening to Kelly. It’s just happening faster.

But more than that, the biggest similarity that led to both downfalls is stubbornness/pride. They just refuse to change.

o that raises the question: what would be his next job?

Could he get a coaching or media job paying $6-7M? I think he could. That would SEVERELY offset the actual money paid out.

There are some sunk costs involved, too, like Brad Davis, Sloan, etc. Those guys are going to be terminated almost guaranteed, so those costs are already baked into the overall calculations. I have to imagine both will also get jobs that will offset the buyout costs, regardless.

Not sure I buy everything you are saying but it is at least a sane thought process, moreso than the idiots yelling for a rich booster to toss $60 mill out the window.

If LSU fires Kelly after two losses you think any new coach would want to come here? LSU was the underdog in both losses. Despite what the Advocate says Vanderbilt did not “upset” LSU.
