re: One of the elite Defensive Schools, and we can't get an elite DC?!? Could this be why?

. Assistants are proud to come from the Parcells, Belichick, Saban, Meyer, coaching tree.

If it was about not wanting to work for Orgeron then why did they interview and consider it in the first place
Because regardless of how big of a prick your potential boss is, you take an interview with a program that just paid its last coordinator $2.3 million, and the guy before that a $10 million, four-year guaranteed contract.

You said a lot of stupid stuff. But the downvote was for "Imma".

How’d that work out for Aranda?

Dave Aranda and Joe Brady might have something to say about that
Aranda was an elite DC before O became head coach here.
Joe Brady didn't develop under O. Brady brought his offense, implemented it, and left after one year.
Man, you O sycophants are hard to take.

Freeman was always no more than a 50-50 shot. We came in 2nd.
The guy that Orgeron wanted (and expected, rightly or wrongly) was Nielsen.
For all Ed knew Nielsen was a done deal as soon as the Saints season was over. Nielsen’s agent even told LSU so.
But then the Saints lost, and Sean Payton was feeling all butt-hurt, and his staff starts losing people like Dan Campbell and Aaron Glenn, and Dennis Allen was getting interviewed by the Eagles, and Payton reads on Twitter that NFL Network is reporting that Nielsen to LSU is a done deal...and he decides that he has to stick something in the leaking dike before he has a major problem....and so he comes up with the cash and title to keep a talented young coach.
So Orgeron has to go back to a list that probably didn’t have much more than 4-5 names to begin with. This isn’t going to take weeks. Heck, they may announce the new DC this weekend.
You guys complained about Ed not interviewing Pelini. Now he’s taking his time, but you’re still complaining.
Not even Nick Saban was LSU’s first choice. The only things that should matter are that he’s a good fit here and knows how to craft a winning SEC defense.

Sorry you have such a bad opinion of Coach O. I disagree with you completely on multiple things. Your OP is not consistent with reality.

Uhm...who turned the job down when offered because they didn't want to work for Ed O period?
Marcus Freeman when offered the job, initially accepted it until he returned home and his wife forced him to take the Notre Dame job instead because Baton Rouge was too far away from home. As Freeman's wife grew up very close to Notre Dame campus.
Meanwhile, the other dude offered, Ryan Nielsen, who has said that he aspires to get back into college football to become a college football head coach in the future, also wanted to work for Ed O, who he says has always been like a father figure to him.
However, Sean Payton put a stop to it via a clause in Nielsen's contract that Nielsen and his agent had initially thought didn't prevent him from leaving to take a job in college football but in fact after consultation with attorneys it actually did. Meanwhile, as a consolation to Nielsen, Sean Payton and the Saints gave him a nice raise and a new title.
And to think, you were actually losing sleep over this streak of bad luck. As Ed O is being very careful who he offers he job to and for that, I'm very grateful.
I mean, what evidence do you have to validate your paranoid delusion that prospective defensive coordinators are turning the LSU DC job down because they don't want to work for Ed O period? Uhm...other than your utterly unhinged delusion, nothing whatsoever. Look dude, seek mental help or something, As your thread is not only utterly absurd but also utterly unhinged at the same time.

Concerns about Ed Orgeron by potential coordinators is hardly an "unhinged delusion".
The turnover among coordinators and asst. coaches would be a cause of concern for anyone. The health of the program and the seeming turmoil in Ed's personal life are others.
Uncertainty about LSU and sanctions is yet another.

There are obviously some loons in the LSU fan base that always assumed and still assume to this damn day that Ed O is and has always been a dumb doofus.
He didn't win a natty because he is a very competent and a very excellent head coach. Instead, he was just lucky as sin.
As you loons just can't come to grips with the fact that Ed O is astronomically far more intelligent and competent than you dumb loons will ever come close to being.

Nice try but Brady would credit Sean Payton and Aranda Gary Andersen as primary technical influencers on their career.
There is no O coaching tree except maybe Ryan Nielsen, who ironically passed on him to come be his DC.
There is no coaching tree for Coach O because he hasn't done it long enough, and chances are coaches that have coached under him also coached under more successful coaches.
Jason Garrett is credited as being under the Saban coaching tree because he was Saban's QB coach when in Miami even though he spent more time under Wade Phillips.
Linehan has a similar line except he only spent 1 year under Saban as Miami's OC and was under Tice for 3 years in Minnesota & Jim Lambright w the Huskies for 5 years.

PTK you are absolutely right.Ther are posters who will
not be happy until O is gone. They didn`t want him and would
rather be right than enjoy any success he has.

EdO lets all position coaches control their said position. He lets them handle in game subouts. I would say that's letting them grow.
What does dabo have to offer with his oh so extensive coaching expertise?

FYI EdO and Aranda go back a ways. Much before Aranda was hired by Les. It was on EdO's recommendation that Les contacted and ultimately signed Dave.
Back when Jr was at SC Aranda was in LA starting his coaching career. He went to EdOs apartment almost daily to talk football. They kept a close relationship over the years.

No. I do not think that is why coaches arent lining up to coach at LSU.
Fans should realize that our defense may get worse (if that's possible) before it gets better because the coaching pool to choose from is very limited in a year that not many teams were firing coaches.
I have no doubt Pelini would have an improved defense after another off season under his belt, players getting a little older, and more depth from the new class. But since fans wanted to fire him since the first game, we're now in a boat that we have to settle for someone that is way riskier.
I didnt see as big of a problem with keeping Pelini on the staff for one more season and if he didnt succeed then we had another year to find a better fit.
I love LSU but I'd have reservations against coaching here if I had to walk into what Pelini did and totally turn around the defense with the pressure of getting fired even in a COVID year.

You ever sat in a room and had a conversation with EdO? If not how can you judge his level of intelligence? Is it from a few video clips on the news or the internet? I have heard more than one football person marvel at the level of EdO's football knowledge.
It is a world wide belief that people who can converse in multiple languages are usually of higher intelligence. After the national championship VS clemson there was a reporter that came all the way from FRANCE. He asked for a few minutes of Jrs time. That reported didn't speak a word of english though. No problem Jr conducted the WHOLE interview in that reporter's language of french. There is not another coach in all of college football that could have pulled that one off.

You don't think a coach that has put in 30+ years in coaching. Working with the best of the best in college and the pros doesn't learn anything from those people? You don't think he has anything to offer other coaches? Even ELITE coaches? Even some offensive coaches, especially Oline coaches.

I think losing 20 players to the NFL and multiple returning starters to covid might have had a little to do with it too.
Not to mention no spring ball. No fourth quarter program. No players only summer workouts.

He gets the selling point from his mother. Coco managed a furniture/appliance store for years. She could sell an icemaker to an eskimo and sun screen to TJ.
