I just wish we didn't have Gordon and Todd get into a marketing turf war to create the artificial number of 68,000.

They took something cool, that LSU fans organically would've set a record without their help, and turned into corporate BS.

I ended up buying a couple of shots last year, just to see what it was all about, before Todd/Gordon ruined it. I'm not there this year, obviously.

I agree. I have no issue with their making big purchases, and I have no issue with their getting publicity from it. But everytime I see that 68,888 total and know that Gordon did it intentionally to match his phone number, it rubs me the wrong way. It puts far too big of a stamp on something that he only played a small part in.

Eh I’m pretty sure Tennessee and A&M games this year are outdrawing games from last year.

I have a problem with the exact number and the number as a whole.

It effectively killed the Jell-o shot challenge because no one will ever come close to that organically. It won't be broken again until LSU makes another run in Omaha and Gordon or Todd breaks 70K or some lawfirm from another team wants to get some positive PR and breaks the record.

Yep. It makes it about him when the shot record had already been crushed.

At least Graves bought his 6000 before our 2nd game. We played 7 more games after that. And those only put us at 21,000.

Todd Graves: 6,000
+
Gordon: 8,888
=
14,888

68,888 - 14,888 = 54,000

old record was 18 thousand something.

He made a grand gesture about the 8,888 because again... marketing... but he bought more, a lot more.

now that we put it out of reach, yeah.

i believe you.
i’m just going off the publicly available numbers.

but we smoked the record even without.

let’s just say he bought and additional 30,000 shots (i doubt it’s that many), we still break the record by damn near 5,000 shots.

but let’s be real about it.
8,888 @ $5 a shot is $44k+
using the 8888 is advertising, so worth the $44 grand.

he’s not silently and secretly dropping that much or more without telling EVERYBODY on the planet that he did.
you spend the money for publicity, so i highly doubt it was an extravagant # without bragging.

so realistically maybe another 5,000 or so (which is till $20k).

that puts us at 49,000.

Poor Omaha bar owners gonna be vacationing at the KOA this summer instead of barefoot cruises in the Caribbean thanks to lsu not being there. They were banging their heads against the wall when UNC pulled off that comeback

Which is why Gordon and Todd coming in making it more about them than the fans is so dumb and self-serving.
