OL for 2014...how do you see the line shaping up?

Looking at the roster I don't see any senior OL other than Josh Williford.

Assuming LC is the only underclassman to leave early, how do you see the line shaping up from among the following:

Turner
Vadal
Porter
Pocic
Hawkins
Washington
Boutte
Edinburgh
Dodd
Malone
Fanaika
Austin

plus incoming players. Seems like the cupboard is quite full, even if we lose La'el.

Pocic stepped in nicely for Porter Friday, but should he be our next LT?

Thoughts?

Pocic is legit. Stepped in and played his arse off, as well as Washington. Pocic is gonna be a great tackle. Extremely athletic. Future is bright for the tigers

Agree...we actually have quality depth in OL.

Has anyone heard though about the extent of Porter and Hawkins' injuries from Friday toward the end of the game? Hope they were minor, but Porter seemed to be in a lot of pain.

Recently saw Kevin Mawae on a sports show with Ronnie Rantz.Rantz asked Mawae to give his honest assessment of LSU's offensive line.Mawae said that from a physical aspect they were pretty good. However, he stated that they were not technically sound at all.Rantz said that Studrawa was the line coach and Mawae said in his opinion the offensive line men were not technically sound and they need to work on their technique more in order to improve but in his assessment they were not technically sound.Period.

no. they are technically sound. They just need to come along physically a bit more to be a very good o-line. It's coming around, just need to keep up recruiting those types (falling a little short this recruiting season it seems).

Pocic has the ability and athleticsm to play Tackle, and I think he's being groomed for that. We will need him there. It's a weak spot somewhat (not horrible, but we need upgrades/development).

Brumfield and Clapp are coming up. Coaches love Clapps "meanness" and football IQ. Future guard with him calling the protections instead of center.

Not sure about center past Porter (assuming Pocic moves over)?

Dodd has a serious/nagging shoulder injury. He's missing important practice time. Feel bad for him, and LSU, kid has skills and this is setting both back.

As for Stud:
- don't know if it's scheming or players, but LSU has hell with stunts/twists. Clemson last year and a couple of teams this year showed that.
- can tell picking up blitzes, including the RBs, in the middle has some problems. Was always taught block down if in doubt. LSU doesn't do this for some reason. Bama ate us up here.
- blocking play calling has some communication issues, including snap counts. not sure who's fault this is, but the OL has a lot of false starts due to this (it's not just twitching or moving early, you can tell many are bad communication)

Mawae would be a homerun hire for LSU if it were to ever happen. Universally respected on and off the field in the NFL. A guy with average NFL talent who was just fundamentally and mentally ahead of just about everyone he ever matched up with.

I'm waiting for the NCAA to get in the 21st century and up the limits on coaches. Here, in this century, there is a need for specialists (e.g. QB Coach, S/Teams coach).

If that were to happen, then hopefully a Mawae could be brought in as an assistant and groomed/transitioned in.

I posted a similar question about DTs earlier, and it fell off the front page with no replies. Oline looks to be a strong spot as does DE. DTlooks like a problem spot again in 2014. I believe DT will decide our fate next year.

Hawkins at LT makes me nervous, but atleast Jennings mobility will somewhat negate that.

I think Hawkins's pass-blocking is fine, and I don't worry about that at all. He does need to get stronger for our running game, IMO.

I like Pocic at LT but he will most likely be at RT and Hawkins moved to LT.

I'd really like for these guys to have a new OL coach but that won't happen either.
