Defense wins championships and the voters didn't want to see a 42-10 BCS Title Game.

Just looking at wins and losses, Ok State had the better resume. But, deep down, you know that Bama was the better team...why? Because of their defense.

The Pac-12 and Big 12 are littered with incomplete teams...teams with great offenses but mediocre defenses. The only teams in those conferences that even consider building strong defenses are Southern Cal, Texas and Oklahoma...which is why they have been in the hunt many times in the past decade.

Say what you want about the rematch, but the atmosphere in the Superdome on January 9 is going to be sick...no other matchup would be able to match the electricity and intensity that will be on display that night.

I laughed last night when Gundy said, "We think our defense is much better than people are saying."

Yet they held ESPN's boy Landry Jones and OU to ten freaking points, giving up the TD in garbage time (I didn't see the end.)

Yeah, that was pretty good. So was, "Do people want to see a 9-6 game or a 39-36 game?"

Really think you'll score in the 30's? And then he goes on to say it'd be nice to see if SEC defenses are the real deal (paraphrased).

Couldn't agree more about the intensity, and the fact that Bama is the 2nd best team in the country. My only gripe is the hypocrisy of the media - they did everything they could to make Bama was #2 - "eyeball test"?

If OSU would have made the FG against Iowa St (or had it been called a made FG), wouldn't Bama still be the 2nd best team in the country?

If Oregon, W. Va., or Arkansas had come within 10 points of us, we'd be playing Oklahoma State.

The NOPD might want to step up the numbers for this game. The 2 fans bases will not be nice to each other in New Orleans. B/c of the way this happened i think it could get ugly. Chicken, you are right though, the hype for this game will be unreal.

btw, OSU does have the most takeaways of any defense in the entire country, with 42. The defensive stat that has them ranked 107th is based on yardage, which isn't everything.

They are 60th in scoring defense, allowing 25.8 ppg. That's not great, but it doesn't matter when you score 49.3 ppg. They are 9th in opponents redzone efficiency.

They don't have a great defense. But, they cause a crap ton of turnovers. And, their defense is still better than Bama's kicking game.

A lot of assumptions were made about Michigan and Ohio St. in 2006 also. They both got wallopped in their respective bowls.

In my heart, I know that Bama and LSU are the two best teams. But, the voters did what they needed to do in 2006 and 2007 in order to get a conference champion with an good enough resume' into the BCSCG, and both times it was the right decsion.

What is so different about this year?

In terms of what, yards?

That's a horible measure of how capable a defense is.

so every year, just have two SEC teams match up, and call it day, period. dont piss on other teams back and let them believe they have a chance when they dont.

They are out because they aren't called University of Oklahoma and voters are lazy. They voted on reputation, not merit. If OU has OSU's resume, they'd be in the title game.

Total Defense is yards given up per game.

Oklahoma State's defense:
Total Defense - 107th
Rushing Defense - 84th
Pass Defense - 102nd
Scoring Defense - 61st

I would think that those defensive stats are a direct result of Ok State's offensive production. Teams are going to have to throw to try to keep up with the Cowboys, which leads to lots of yards and lots of interceptions.

And, #1 in turnover margin by a staggering number. and, that is a huge indicator of an opportunistic defense. In fact, it is what makes LSU's defense better than Bama's IMO even though Bama leads in every category.

they also forced 18 fumbles and recovered 19 which is 5th and 2nd in the country. And, their 23 INTs is 2nd. That's pretty freaking impressive.

while not a dominant defense, Auburn defense last year was strong against the run (No. 11 in Rushing Defense) and 54th in both Scoring and Total Defense.

Agreed.

It's another notch in the historic season. Actually, I can't think of a better way to end an undefeated, national championship, dominating season than to beat the Gumps for a 2nd time in the same season.
