Late in the year to be hiring a basketball coach. Are they not gonna just go with an already-on-staffer as interim for a year?

They are gonna shoot for Billy Donovan or someone similar. Proven winner. I don't know a lot about Ohio St basketball but supposedly it's a job desired by a lot of great coaches. I don't know if I believe that though

Ahh. Gotcha. But why announce now? How is a lame duck staff supposed to recruit? Oh well, I have already spent way more time thinking about Thad Matta and Ohio State basketball in June 5th.

No. He's out immediately.
I can't imagine Will Wade would leave LSU after 2.5 months on the job. He just signed a top-50 PG today.
Odd timing for OSU, but I think Matta was getting killed (no pun intended) on the recruiting trail. Other coaches were telling prospects he was on the verge of death due to his health issues.
OSU is a big job with big money in a big conf. But it's not SO much better than the LSU job that Wade would leave before even coaching a game.

Why Wade? Seems like they would go for a more proven head coach. LSU was the biggest job available to him when we signed him.
Also the backlash for Wade by leaving without even coaching a game would be unbelievable. If this were to happen, he better be successful right away. No way he gets another quality coaching gig if he's a dud at OSU after spurning LSU before a game is played. Rebuilding his image would be a massive effort

well it kinda makes sense. Urbs and Donovan are great friends. Donovan could be tired of the NBA (Saban) plus he's a smart man and realizes nobody is getting past Golden State over the next several yrs. I'm not saying he would do it but lets not act like it can't happen
