also LA just took Oregon St QB if that puts a 20th round picks value in perspective
The Orioles took an Oregon State Defender a few years back. That has worked out so far

Well whats the rule then?
The rule has always been a specific date and time. Lee signed on the last day of the deadline. The deadline has since been moved up to August 1 at 5:00 ET

Someone mentioned he was the only high school player the Cardinals selected. Will be interesting to see how many of their picks are out of eligibility. They may be in a position to make a push if they drafted a bunch of seniors

Neither of the cardinals "seniors" they took in top 10 rounds have no eligibility left. They have leverage. They are covid juniors technically as they started baseball in college in 2020 season which didnt count towards eligibility.
The rest of their picks were juniors so i dont see where they are saving a huge amount of money in top 10 rounds, certainly not enough to get Cam Johnson the probably $2M+ he wants.
It will pretty much come down to Chase Davis their 1st round pick with a slot value of $3.62M and what he signs for. IF for some reason he signed for only like $1.5-$2M for whatever reason (no way) then maybe theres a chance they could come at Cam Johnson with a gigantic offer. They only have a $6.35M total pool so really does come down to how much they save with Chase Davis if any there.

He was a kicker

My only concern with Cam Johnson is that the Cards selected him, and they are the very best at developing players in their farm system.

Not reading into it as im pretty sure every player does it but Cameron Johnson retweeted picture of him getting drafted and said "yessir"

Just to put a number to it, if every LSU player does sign and the only recruit to sign is Blake Mitchell, the roster sits at 43 players right now. 23 position players and 20 pitchers.
This is not being posted to start speculation on who transfers or anything like that. Just simply want to post the roster number.

The kid just got drafted let him enjoy it

He would have enjoyed getting drafted in the first 5 rounds not 20

To add to this, they can go over the pool but have to pay a tax. After 317k over the pool (5%, 6.67m total) they lose a draft pick and no team has ever gone past the 5% over threshold.
Also, the first 150k bonus for rounds 11-20 don't count against the bonus pool.
Cardinals took a flyer to see if they can save somewhere and throw whatever is left at him. I wouldn't feel secure until the deadline is passed

It’s going to be great when LSU sends him from the 20th round to the 1st

I think it’s more to use as leverage in negotiating with their top picks. They can point to Johnson and say they’ll just use their slot money to sign him if they don’t agree to terms.

That wouldn’t work, because if they don’t sign a player they lose his slot value.

Sorry, I wasn’t remembering the details right from last season. One of LSU’s signees almost didn’t sign because he was asking for a significant amount over slot. I think another one of LSU’s signees was drafted as a flyer late by the same team. That flyer pick was still leverage, but it was for the extra money they had from going under slot on their other signees. It wasn’t to use that player’s slot money. I forgot that they do lose the slot value if the player doesn’t sign.

That's how Bryce Harper was drafted after what should have been his junior year of high school. Got his GED at 16, played one year of juco, and was drafted #1 overall.
Wood bat league JUCO and won the Golden Spikes, right?
That guy's natural talent is obscene.

If he isn't drafted, don't see any reason why he wouldn't want to come back and play another year. Same with Travinski. Not really anything to lose by doing that as opposed to being a GA. You're still involved with the team and going to school every day in both situations.
If they want to start at catcher they may look for a team with a hole in the roster at that position and transfer.
