[quote...it doesn't make sense to recruit HS that are just program players. Why develop a guy for three years on a hunch that he will develop. Just go in the portal every year and get the guys that have already developed.[/quote]
there will always be a place for guys who develop and shine in year three. in addition to what they bring on the field, they are good as a locker room presence. For example I think it makes total sense to keep Stevenson not for what he will contribute next year but for what he brings to 2024.

I said around half of the top 100 you can get to campus. You said you have any data or just pulling it out your arse? Then I pointed out that last year 43 of the top 100 made it to campuses. Then you said last year doesn’t count because it had 5 rounds and made a complete fool of yourself because it had 20 rounds just like this year.I said well law of averages says we get AT LEAST 4-5 of the top 100 kids from what I’m seeing. And you was a non believer,it’s ok but at least next time know how many rounds are in the draft. We got 6 top 65 players so worked out even better,we should all rejoice in the fact we have the right man in charge if he can continue this transfer an recruiting assault on the nation

No but he could’ve done a free agent deal still if he had wanted too
I think the bigger risk is guys opting for junior colleges, instead. It happens all the time, where a kid goes undrafted, or even if he does get drafted, but not as high as he wanted; you think that means he's coming to campus, but it turns out he only "committed" to your school for leverage, so they go to a junior college where they can re-enter the draft much sooner.
So yeah, it's always nice when these kids state their actual intentions after the draft, because you never know until then.

I found the thread. It was from early April. All I said was that the pre draft rankings don’t mean anything compared to the post draft and who you can get to show up. I mentioned Smoke and said he would go after top guys but he couldn’t get them here. My exact quote:
I’m extremely happy with how the draft went. It exceeded everyone’s expectations.
quote:I even said that I thought we end up with a top 3 class when it’s regraded in October. You said over half of the top 100 HS prospects would end up on campus and your best data point to back that up was last year when 43 ended up at school which is the highest ever and a direct result of the 5 round draft in 2020 and all the good players who ended up in college and wouldn’t be available until the next year or in 3 years. I’m curious how easy it will be to get HS kids next year now that guys like Crews are available again.
How about it’s simply the reality of the situation when it comes to baseball. Smoke went after top tier guys too. How did that work out?
I’m generally a Jay supporter. Everyone is adjusting to how he manages the lineup and pen. It’s the exact opposite to the previous staff. There have been some improvements and some regressions. I certainly haven’t called for him to be fired although I might if Bianco gets another start.

Project, say Carter Young does decide to sign, any idea what middle infielders still in the portal are worth going after?
Any portal infielders we were connected to have either picked a destination or were drafted and intend to sign.

Agree. Specially with all the talent that LSU is going to have . My question is can they go to the junior college route even after they have signed with LSU

Lineup still in good shape:
C Milazzo Travinski Frey Neal Jones (DH initially)
1B White Morgan (could move to OF)
2B would like to see Dugas here Leto could move to 2B as well
SS Young Guidry
3B Thompson Simon can get a look here
OF Pearson Stevenson Crews Kling Jobert (DH)
DH Beloso and others
Still some healthy competition and you can bring newcomers along slowly like you did with Pearson last year

I’m thinking we will figure out a way to get better defense behind the plate at catcher , next year, without having to play millazo. His bat won’t cut it.
Surely travinski or one of the frosh will improve or be good enough to at least be serviceable without having to sacrifice a bat

If they've signed, they can ask for a release from their LOI, and then sign elsewhere.

I said around half and 43% is pretty good and beings that we are talking about this particular recruiting class and I said 4-5 will make it to campus I would say that’s a pretty good prediction beings we got 6.However you want to twist it the class ended up being the number 1 class and Jay showed us all why he got this job and not Tony Vitello or some other clown. As far as next year with players like Crews and others from 2020 available I would imagine that will help us next year to get players we shouldn’t have normally gotten but who knows. All I know is if we somehow continue getting 5-6 top 100 kids every single year plus the best transfers we are going to need a bigger trophy case

I don't believe Simon is in the portal. Leto is though.

Your exact quote:
Like I said then, I wasn’t doubting Jay. I was referring to the general unknown that comes with the MLB draft. You can sign the top 10 recruits but that means nothing if they don’t show up to school. And again, we did very well. I have no complaints.
quote:And your best example was a year when the maximum ever hit at 43 of 100 which was a direct result of covid and the smaller 5 round draft where everyone was signed because every team went extremely safe. Lots of high school kids that would have gotten drafted went Juco and 4year. Those Juco kids were available last year again which affected the HS kids coming out. This year is going to be a drop. Of ton of HS kids will sign. Next year it will be low again and you’ll be able to get some extra ones on campus because that 2020 draft is still having an effect.
there will be probably half of the top 100 that you can get on campus maybe more

I'm doing some quick numbers on top 100 players to enroll into college...assuming LSU holds onto Noot which I expect they will this recruiting class will be the best one since pre 2011.
