There are a couple pretty good options at short before we get to guidry.
The key though, is now we have options

Must have missed Thompson getting drafted.
You must have missed watching Thompson lead the SEC in errors.

The obvious solution is for the CBA to dictate that you can’t go below slot value.
Or just be better your first 3-4 years in college

Looks like Guidry might be starting at SS as a freshman.
What about Carter Young?

I like Carter, I just don't know if he will have the bat to stay in the lineup.

Why should a team be able to lowball you though? You should get your slot value.
Posted on 7/19/22 at 2:22 pm to ForeverEllisHugh
just not how it works. Never has.

There’s no justification for it though. You get drafted, there’s a slot value, that’s what you get paid. Don’t know why the union isn’t pushing this.
Et tu Ell? No one has given any reason as to why it’s a defensible practice to go below slot.

Because you have no leverage, you seem to forget you can still come back to college if you dont get drafted in the draft, or dont agree to sign for a particular bonus if you do get drafted. This isnt the case in the other major sports like football or basketball.
Because players have that in their corner, it's a big plus to them. On the flipside, if you dont agree to anything until you are left with no leverage, then that's on you.
You can literally get drafted and sign a contract like 4 different times before you even get to a last season with no leverage in baseball and keep coming back to college each time after having your name in the draft.
high school -> draft with leverage, can go to college
JUCO 1st year -> draft with leverage, can stay in college
JUCO 2nd year -> draft with leverage, can stay in college
D1 school 3rd year -> draft with leverage, can stay in college
D1 school final year -> Draft with no leverage

Then the whole system needs an overhaul to incentivize staying in school
I don't know how this is even possible, but you get dumber with each post.

I just said it - prohibit teams from paying less than slot value.

Because mlb has a huge minor league program and if someone is drafted they don’t forfeit their amateur status which is very different from other leagues.
Posted on 7/19/22 at 2:26 pm to ForeverEllisHugh
If that rule was even put into place, then gervase just gets drafted lower
Posted on 7/19/22 at 2:26 pm to ForeverEllisHugh
Because life isn't always fair, that's how I grew up. Play your best ball before your senior year or take what you can and live out a dream and try to make the big leagues. That's what it is about anyway.

This is one of the problems. Minor league teams hardly even have fans - get rid of single A so more kids will stay in college.

Jobert passed up money on day 2 so I wouldn’t think he accepts anything today.

It’s plenty fair. Players get power too. They get more choice. They can be drafted 3 times in a career. They get more options than any other sport really.
