This should be one of our more successful classes. With Bregman coming in, it's looking good. The draft didn't hurt us as much as the past with these new rules in play. If we somehow land Gallo it'll be the best one yet, imo.

Based on the way Sewald was used in HS this year, I hope that either he's taking the summer off, or we red shirt him next year to give his arm a break.
Meh. He threw 64 innings. That isn't an inordinate amount. And he didn't really lose steam as the season went along, which indicates the game he threw 150 pitches didn't hurt him.

Sewald has been working with one of those strength/velocity trainers since last year and it sounds like his velocity has increased significantly in that short time. He may end up being another mid 90's guy before he leaves here.

kid is a monster. why can't we get lucky and get a kid like this to campus!
The last time a first rounder out of High School showed up and played at LSU.... 1971... Mike Miley

Anyone with more insight on Sean McMullen, the JUCO OF? His name has been thrown around as a starter next year.
Obviously his JUCO experience puts him ahead of some of the other recruits but is there something that puts him ahead of some of the other guys already in the OF rotation?

Problem with JUCO kids is you never really know if they're legit or not. Casey Yocum came into this year as an all-world recruit, and he hasn't gotten the splinters out of his arse since the second week of the year.

i was just wishing. look at UF..they landed several top 3 round picks over the last few years.
Zunino, Whitson, Johnson, and Tucker were all top 5 round picks i believe. Hell Whitson was like 7th overall.

With the likely return of Rhymes and Katz to go along with Sciambra, I'm not sure if McMullen will find himself in an immediate spot to play. He's a speedster from the left side of the plate so of course if he can hit for average he'll find himself in the lineup somewhere. However, too many questions right now to predict if he'll start.

Realize that things are still fluid and yet future, but can anyone comment on how this class shapes up against PM's other classes?
It's going to be one of Mainieri's deeper classes pitching wise as well as a class loaded with outfielders. The high school pitching won't have you're Gausman or Aaron Nola who will come in and start for you in SEC games but they're young and talented. The advantage will be Dunn's ability to groom them slowly with LSU's (still loaded pitching staff) in 2013.
Bregman and Chinea are 1st and 2nd team high school all-americans out of high school and I look for them to make immediate impacts at the plate.
In terms of talent at this point this class doesn't stack up to the class of 07 (Ranaudo, Gibbs, LeMahieu, Landry etc...) or the 10 class with (Gausman, Ross, Jones, Eades etc...). I would put it right at or below last years class which has had success this year.
IF LSU somehow manages to land Gallo because he's not satisfied with what the Rangers offer him then LSU's offense next year becomes scary.

Some quotes from Gallo:

quote:
“Hopefully, we can work something out (with Texas),” he said. “But I can go to college and raise my stock, and do this all over again in three years. Obviously, it will all depend on the money. We’ll have to wait and see.”
quote:
“It was stressful because I was expecting to hear my name is the first round,” he said. “I had to stay confident, but it was pretty stressful. I’m glad it worked out going to such a quality organization.”

Some quotes from Gallo:
I don't think he comes.
But didn't he become good friends with Bregman? I remember they were talking about being roomates. Man, if only. That would be a scary 1-2 punch

I like the speed this class has with Jackson, McMullen, and Stevenson.

Adam, do you see Jones as a 2B or OF at the next level?

At this point in his career its hard to tell.
He excelled at SS in HS.
He's excelled at 2B thus far in college.
He has the speed and mobility to play CF.
He'll probably outgrow 2B as he continues to get bigger and stronger. I'd go with SS or CF/RF, it comes down to whatever need the team that drafts him has.
