If he’s picked in the top 3-4 rounds it’s because he had a handshake deal to sign.

After that, it would take a team with a high pool to take him some time in the top 10 rounds.

With this draft being 20 rounds after last year being 5, I don’t think anyone gets drafted without the intention of signing. There are too many fewer picks to waste them on a guy that won’t sign.

ETA: I think we see like a 95-100% signing rate.

If a HS player gets picked before round 10 consider them gone, after that I wouldn’t worry about round but more about a team like the Pirates, Tigers, Rangers, Red, Orioles with enough money to move around.

Yea I remember that’s what was being said the past few years. I was wondering if that would change with the idea of NIL at LSU possibly being a better living than minor league baseball and it would shift to like round 6-8

Idk I think it will be very interesting to see how NIL effects recruits perception of their options

The NIL will benefit LSU and every other major program outside of the top 100 high school players…who will sign no matter what.

Especially with the number of high quality senior signs available.

If the pirates go with someone like Kevin Kopps or Tanner Allen in the 3rd and 4th, they become dangerous in regard to high school guys later on.

Project, if they are already attending summer school, can they still sign in the draft?

My understanding is yes they can.

ETA: it came up recently with a couple Clemson football guys that are on campus there but are also high draft prospects.

He was. But there have been a ton of rule changes since then.

Yeah he wasn’t just in the Summer program, they were in Fall camp a few weeks before the opener back when the deadline was in mid August.

The rule states teams may sign picks until 11:59 on the signing deadline or until the player enrolls “full time”. I assume that doesn’t necessarily mean a full time Summer course load though.

Nap, just in general do you know how many signees are already on campus?

Pirates look to be going with the Louisville catchers in an under slot deal.

That will leave a lot of money for other guys, namely Kudrna, who they’ve been attached to.

Maybe the idea of not playing for the Pirates will sway Kudrna to turn them down.

Tanner Allen is a Jr in eligibility

He’s a 23 year old senior with an extra COVID year if he wants it.

From the draft standpoint, he’s a senior sign. That extra COVID year gives him no leverage because he’s already been eligible for the draft since his sophomore year.
