After taxes and agent fees, it's not that much. I hear your perspective, I just disagree. I think playing college baseball at a place like LSU is a once in a lifetime experience and it's not something to pass up unless you get life changing money. Thats why I said hope he's got plans to get a degree along the way. So many of these kids end up with a minimal amount of money, no education, no skills outside baseball and are staring down a competing job market at age 30 once they're done. Strong parenting can make a big difference in these decisions. For some context, Kelly was the 4th highest rated pitcher we signed. He was an easy sign and lasted until the 8th round. He doesn't have electric stuff. He's got good stuff and a projectable frame. Hardly a lock to reach the majors and get a real contract.

I've seen lots of guys go this road and at 17, 200k is a fortune so I understand that, but big picture it's really not a "sound decision" at all. The only way it's close to being a sound decision is if he's making school a priority too.

Just my opinion and I think there's ample evidence to support it. Hell just talk to guys like Bregman or Aaron Hill for 5 minutes and they'll tell you it's not an experience worth trading for chump change

I was with Nolan Cain for a little while today. He took a call from Turangs father. I asked him if it was good news and all he did was smile and say let's let it play out. Apparently he isn't being offered near the value he wants.

I want to believe....

If his parents are still communicating with the staff, that’s real positive. We know that much is true too, because CPM said himself they talked multiple times

It's definitely a positive. He said he feels really good about it but wouldn't give me any real info. Makes me think he doesn't really know yet.

Hard for an 18 year old to turn down $3 million

A couple of notes on signings near Turang today just for informational purposes, doesn’t necessarily mean anything. High school 3B Nolan Gorman, pick 19, signed at slot value (3.2something). MLB had him ranked 12th going in. Our resident Cards follower should be able to fill us in on where he was rated by others, but he’s supposed to be the best HS power bat in the class.

High school C Anthony Siegler, pick 23, signed for full slot (2.8something). The MLB guys had him at 46 going in. He was a Florida signee.

Also of note, South Carolina SS signee Blaze Alexander signed for 500. He was highly regarded but dropped to the 11th round.

Levi Kelly officially signed for 350.

Thanks MOT.

Largest signing bonus ever for the 21st pick was exactly 3 million last season. DL Hall - Orioles.

I wish that news got me excited, but it doesnt because of course those teams arent offering it all to turang yet. We have to wait till the last couple days before the deadline before he sees the brewers best offer

What if he was kidnapped and couldn’t get to his phone for a few weeks (hypothetically)?

How far exactly do you expect 3 million to get you in life?

I understand 3 mill is a shite ton of money up front, but it is not money to live off of the rest of your life, unless you are incredibly smart with it. Does anyone know many 18 year olds who would have been super smart with that big chunk of change?

I still think he likely signs btw.
