I know I'm being overly optimistic but...

Oregon can very well lose to Arizona or Oregon St.

the Big 12 Champ could also very easily be a 2 loss team as Nebraska and Ok St. both have tough games remaining, if either of them lose we simply need them to win the Big 12 Championship game which also isn't too much to ask, Okie St. will certainly be the underdogs when they go to Norman

Auburn losing to Bama is probably going to be likely since I'm assuming Bama will be a 3 pt favorite at home in that game

I really feel like we will all be at home watching football on December 4th just needing a South Carolina upset of Auburn and an Oregon St. home win against their rival....and possibly an Okie St. win over Nebraska

I remember everyone buying up tickets, but I don't recall the circumstances. What lead to LSU being a lock for the Rose Bowl that year? Are the same dominoes in place? I thought they did not have to go by rank, which is why I think they would still take a 2 loss Stanford.

Ohio State was already in the BCSCG...and all USC needed to do was win against UCLA and play in the game also.

So that meant, the Rose Bowl was going to lose both of its auto tie-in participants (Big 10 Champ vs Pac 10 Champ).

Meanwhile, since USC was a lock for the BCSCG had they won, that meant #3 team in the BCS Florida would be a lock for the Sugar Bowl as the SEC-Champ tie in.

Michigan was, I believe #4 BCS after its loss to Ohio St in their 1 vs 2 mathup.....and the Rose Bowl was for sure going to take them as Ohio State's replacement.

There wasn't another Pac 10 team worthy to be a Pac-10 replacement for USC, so the Rose Bowl was going to look for a hot/big name team, which LSU fit.

Buttt....USC ended up losing, Florida ended up taking USC's spot in the championship. USC, despite the loss was still Pac10 Champ, so Rose Bowl automatically took them to play Michigan (1 loss Big 10 runner up), and that meant we replaced Florida as the SEC rep in the Sugar.

Good luck with this.

They just got put away by Washington St. at home 31-14.

Even though it's a rivalry, sometimes you are what you are.

An example of that is the Bama-Auburn game in 2008.

Bama was on it's way up that year. Auburn was on it's way down.

Bama whipped them 36-0.

and Oregon St destroyed a Cal team that Oregon almost lost to.

ANYTHING can happen.

I have been hearing that and it is a possibility. The Rose loves their Pac10/Big10 matchup so I don't know.

On the other hand....50,000 free spending Louisianians in Pasadena....of course Pasadena will spend the next 30 years getting over the culture shock....but bowls are as much about money as anything else....

this is a false assumption. and why do you think LSU has no chance to pass TCU?

We are talking bcs, right?

Auburn looses to bama, they drop to about 8 on human polls.

Lsu beats arky, they move to 4 in human polls.

Auburn beats sc, they move back up, but do y they jump lsu? Maybe, maybe not.

Then the computers factor in. lsu would be 2 _ 3 spots ahead of auburn and thus ahead of them in the bcs.

Whooaaaaa. Why is LSU 2-3 spots above Auburn in the computers? We played an almost identical schedule except Auburn played an extra game against SC.

LSU's OOC games against UNC/WVU are marginally better than Clemson and again LSU didn't play an extra SEC game.

But if 12-0 Auburn loses to SC, then South Carolina goes to the Sugar and Auburn almost definitely finishes above LSU in the final BCS. If Auburn finished #3 or #4 above LSU, they get the auto bid and the SEC can only have 2 teams...so LSU is left in the cold.

lsumatt,

I agree with what you say here, technically, but based on the numbers, you think a #2 Auburn losing in the SECCG to possibly #15ish SC team would only drop them 1-2 spots?

I really think it would be close. Depending on how close LSU is to #3/4 going into the SECCG, it might not matter the outcome.

believe it or not, but Vegas doesn't always just favor the higher ranked team....especially on the road

Really feel that either in the pollsters minds or on the field, Camgate will have its effects.

Beside that, its a possibility that if LSU beats Arky and puts itself in poll position and SCAR gives Auburn its first loss, they will be watching LSU and SCAR in BCS bowls. Perhaps LSU in the BCSCG.

Starting to feel the heat of Wisky on our heels.

I think that when voters have to rank LSU and AU next to each other, most of them come to logical conclusion that 12-1 AU should be above 11-1 LSU. I can't be 100 percent certain and maybe Camgate plays a role, but that is what I think.

It doesn't matter if LSU finishes top 4, if AU was #3 and SC was SEC Champs.

Very Interesting discussion and most enjoyable to read. I wish all threads on the rant were this rational.

Compared to last week's Harris poll

LSU gained 20 points
TCU lost 37
Boise gained 6

For the coaches poll

TCU lost 22 points
Boise lost 1
LSU gained 22

LSU could be very close to Boise. A win over Ark could put them above both.

Matt is Wisconsin going to jump LSU for the 5 spot in the BCS today? Or will the top 5 remain the way it is?

I haven't looked at things closely but I don't think Wisconsin catches LSU and I don't think LSU catches Boise this week...but the three will be closer.

AU should pass Oregon though

Thanks

And thanks for doing all the research. I've still got my fingers crossed that everything will fall into place as it should
