If we win, good but more important is to improve and build for next year. Get AJ some reps, fit in new receivers and maybe look at a new running back, linebackers and DLs. In other words, I hope we treat this like a great big scrimmage building to next year and not go all out to win a meaningless game.

Great so absolutely no complaining from you if we lose. Cause shucks lets just let everybody get some PT since the season is over and its just a practice game

The PSU and Iowa losses in the past were both kinda fluky. Penn state in the mud and last Iowa game was a last minute loss that we pretty much had in hand the whole game, even in the wake of Saban packing his bags for Miami.

Im more concerned about how LSU's linebackers will stack up against a physical running big 10 team. As long as they dont get dominated (as they have on a couple of occasions) and Jennings plays decent, then LSU should win by 2 scores.

If Jennings looks good, it will make a big difference in our pre-season ranking next year.

"Its not uncommon for Iowa to line up with 3 tight ends."

I have not seen Iowa play this year, but this concerns me some as an LSU fan. Our defense is way down this year and teams have had success running on the Tigers, especially on the edge where some smaller, fast DE's and LB's often fail to set the edge. As I am sure you've already heard, this is not the bowl or matchup Tiger fans wanted ... but then, we shouldn't have lost to Ole Miss! Looking forward to learning more about Iowa's team and to an intriguing matchup.

Welcome aboard I have many friends in Sioux City who will be making the trip as will I. We've been discussing the matchup I see a last possession game. AJ is not ready for prime time and you guys will probably run for 200+. Bad matchup for the Tigs.

Look I don't want to dwell on that last game but Iowa led in that game except for 50 seconds.

We held aTm to 10.
We held AU to 21.
Iowa's O is ranked in the 80's. You were better off facing Mettenberger from a preparation perspective... AJ is far more mobile.
LSU 41
Iowa 17

I think Iowa's offense matches up really well with LSU's defense, which has struggled against teams that line up and run straight at them with a big offensive line (Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas). That paired with Mettenberger's injury bodes well for the Hawkeyes.

Hopefully Jennings will do well in his first start with a month of prep time, especially considering Iowa will have virtually no film on him. LSU will probably need to be able to leave the corners one-on-one with the Iowa receivers and move the safeties down into the box in run support. This is going to be a much closer game than many LSU fans realize.

Yep. I caught that later for Illinois and I'm not sure what I was thinking of the BCS Championship game. It must be a sign of aging (pushing 50) as I was remembering OSU in the 80's, Iowa and PSU (both in the Cap 1 and in the Mike Miley Orange Bowl) but not remembering 2 of the biggest wins in the last decade.

but our team is playing well and could very well take LSU's best shot and win convincingly (don't laugh too hard at that one please).

This is an idiotic statement. LSU has superior talent. Period. Even if coaching is even (I highly doubt Iowa has a better coordinator duo than Chavis/Cameron), if LSU plays at it's best, LSU beats the shite out of Iowa.

And here come the blow out predictions! Just like the Ark game, and the Ole Miss game etc.
This is a terrible matchup for our D front 7. Big offensive line, big running backs, think Ark except a little better.
Close game, LSU 27 Iowa 24.

You guys have more athleticism at WR and DB. That's it. We're better at OL, DL, LB, TE and by virtue of experience, at QB as well. This isn't Arkansas defense Jennings will be seeing on NYD.

Once again, this game (and most games) will be won and lost by the lines. We have a significant advantage here. You're playing an Iowa team that is playing its best football of the season. Good luck to the Tigers.

I just wish Mettenberger was healthy so that you guys don't have a built in excuse if/when we win by 3-4 TDs.

Our lines are different - wouldn't say one is much better than the other although I am concerned about your power running game. Our RBs are much better, and Jennings could potentially be a difference maker with his athleticism so I'll hold off on saying you have the QB advantage.

I'd call RB even. Weisman is a great power back and Canzeri has emerged the last few games of the season to provide a more elusive breakaway threat. IMO, the team that is able to run will win the game.

The question is whether Jennings will be able to throw. If you guys can get him in a rhythm with the short passes and then hit a few big ones over the top, it will be a test for the Hawks defense. I don't think you'll be able to run on Iowa, and I would think Parker (the DC) would force a green QB to beat them.

If you do get a run game going against us, we will be in some trouble.

Well, we did lead the nation in rushing TDs allowed with Florida St., so we have that going for us.
