another recruiting tool other coaches can use against us, "we're focused on the future and you while O is still reminiscing on his 1 year of glory" or something like that lol

You don’t understand team psychology. You never dwell on the past, good or bad. You go forward.

Otherwise you’re 1997 LSU. Beating #1 ranked Florida and celebrating all the way to a loss next week at Ole Miss.

That's all he knows. He thinks it's as simple as hiring guys that were under joe brady. I truly believe he thinks that everything is going to be like 2019.

Maybe he's referencing 1st year Joe?

From what I understand, there never really was a QB competition. It was always Max.

Thought I was the only one thinking this. But he’s gotta know 2019 could never be replicated

Speaks volumes about his mindset. He’s incapable of reinventing or evolving, just tries to redo what worked at one time.

I agree that we all want to win another national championship, but to continue to compare everything to 2019 I think isn't fair to the current players. Allow the players to pave their own road because bringing up Burrow comparisons get fans thinking he's the next Burrow and expectations become unrealistic.

He has literally done this his entire time as LSU head coach and probably before then. He constantly compares current players to players he has coaches in the past. It’s not a big deal. If the QB can’t handle this then we got way more problems than we think.

Yep, I think both these QB’s were gonna have to battle this one out and now that ship has sailed. O is just trying to push buttons because he’s hoping Max can handle the pressure. We will have to see the second half of the spring game Max……..not the first for the season to go correctly.

STFU and coach the damned team. Nothing he says to the press will have anything to do with how the team performs on the field.

He just doesn't know when to shut his mouth. It's almost as if he's overcompensating for something. Like a 5-5 season.

2019 is and will be the high water mark for every college football team ever. If you’re not striving towards that, you’re not doing it right.

Agreed, but do other successful coaches mention previous players when talking about current players? Honest question.

This particular comment from Orgeron is a nothingburger, but he would still refer to his teams at Miami and USC after he became our HC, so I get why this thread was started.

I don’t give a rat’s arse who Ed compares who to. It’s not a big deal. FWIW, Ed usually has something interesting to say when he is on the podium. His candor has been rather refreshing after several years of Les’ version of “coach speak.” Les was an absolute clown in that press room.

"Our third-string back got the ball. I was not aware we were going to do that." - on the fumble on the first play of the Troy loss

"This is Matt's offense. He runs it. He calls it. He scripts the plays. This is his offense." - after Etling said they were running old plays from 2016

"We are so much better on defense right now than any part of the season last year." - before the 2020 season

"If I’d have interviewed Bo Pelini face to face, I would have still hired him." - at SEC Media Days this year

I like Orgeron, but I don't find any of that candor "refreshing".

To be fair last year’s team got absolutely boned more than anyone by the pandemic. No one lost as many starters and coaches as we did, then they didn’t get any time to prepare.

That battle was to keep Myles from transferring, we have a freshman QB , going into Florida, and old piss and winning , out performing a 4 year senior in the spring game ,

Meh, everyone dealt with covid, and we actually played all of our scheduled games. Many other programs had games straight-up canceled.

I realize our losses in personnel, but teams like Iowa State, North Carolina, and Indiana had better seasons than us, and we were defending national champions. Excusing last season is ridiculous IMO.
