Nuss is the starting QB in 2024

How many reps does he get this year to prep him for next year?

Not a ton unless it’s a blowout unfortunately. Brian Kelly has made it clear that JD is his quarterback

Projecting the next 11 following the 1st, looks like 0.0.

If JD can’t push it downfield I believe at some point this year Nuss will get a chance. Unless Kelly really is as stubborn as Miles.

It won’t matter. We’ll still have 4 losses.

I would start him against MSU

Im not sure he will be the starter. If he steps in and brings back the forward pass and the hope of winning, it makes Kelly look bad. Kelly doesn’t want to look bad.

He's gonna get mop up duty, or if jd is banged up.

This is the dumbest thought that’s shared by too many in our fanbase

BK already has $$$$ jackpot in the bank
He is going to do it HIS way no matter win or lose
I hope that winning a natty is really on his bucket list and he makes uncomfortable changes to make it happen
At least one natty in next 3 years and I will be happy

Worse scenario for Nuss is if he rides the bench this season with little to no playing time then fully expecting to be the guy next season. Now what if Kelly goes to the portal and brings in his guy! Nuss gets fricked!

If BK is willing to frick over a kid who put in the time, practiced hard, and showed loyalty to the program when he could've bailed, just to bring in "his guy", aka a JD clone, I can't imagine any future QB recruit would want to play for him.

Nuss is 100% the starter next year unless you get a proven starter transfer like a Maye and that will NEVER happen
We open next year against USC which will have a new starter coming in
Would like Nuss taking over NOW if we fall to anyone before we play Bama

maybe I'm completely misremembering but isn't that like exactly what happened with Brennan?

Quite a few. We’ve seen him a ton already.

Correct IMO and is not unrealistic.
Consider, if Jayden Daniels v2.0 is available through the portal for '24, then why wouldn't CBK recruit him and play him in front of Nuss? That's basically what he's doing now - playing JD v1.0 before Nuss because JD's more experienced and more aligned with CBK's QB preferences.
That would be the same scenario as described in my protasis above.

I don't think we know the whole story.
MB may not have been 100% after his injuries and determined if he couldn't perform at some level he was better off elsewhere. That's a pretty benign story and one would think it would have come out if the case. No one gets their feelings hurt.
Or MB may have just grown tired of football. Would seem really odd but kinda like Phil Robertson.
Here's what I think happened. CBK needed a QB so he first recruited MB back out of the portal. No idea what kind of offense he told him we would run but apparently MB was good with it. But when JD became available, CBK recruited him. Why? Because his skill-set is what CBK prefers.
At that point, I think it became obvious to MB that the deck was stacked against him in the QB competition, it was too late for him to transfer to another school, and he didn't care to spend his 6th year on the sidelines running a headset. All speculation on my part.
2 closing comments:
1) I do not fault CBK. He was hired to win football games. If he thought JD gave a him a better chance to do that than MB then MB becomes collateral damage.
2) Was never some big MB fan until I went back and watched his cleanup play in '19 and his 3rd start in'20 vs Mizzou, He was a very good passer.

Pretty much. I think that Brennan knew that no matter what he did, Kelly was gonna start JD, so he said frick it and moved on.
If Kelly does it again, then I will lose all respect for him as not only a coach, but as a person.
