Hold up. You think Bryce Underwood was offered 1.5 million over 4 years? GTFO now

if he plays for that next year he really loves LSU. He could definitely get a lot more.

Not quite. Underwood was the most coveted recruit of the year.

Negotiations are about leverage. Unless LSU has something better in the portal, Nuss is the best shot to win. They know what they were willing to pay a high school prospect with zero NCAA stats.

Not saying he will pull on that, but it’s what agents and professionals do.

So what insurance does LSU have right now in the portal? There's none. Nobody is better than Nuss in the portal right now. Running a program on hopes and assumptions is how you end up with disappointing seasons. Just because you think they might have a portal QB who's worth it that eventually enters doesn't mean you wait around and squander an opportunity to keep Nuss here right now if you can. That would be dumb.

None of the current LSU players are worth half a million with the effort/results they got this year...but everybody is overpaying for marginal talent so the kids are holding all the power.
Its like Jerry Jones overpaying for Dak, Zeke, etc.
Overpaying undeliver...

Literally every pundit reported this from the LSU end. We went to $6M total, Michigan doubled it to get his signature.

I think you mean "command" rather than "demand". Anyone could "demand" $2M/yr but that doesn't say anything about what the market will bear. I think what you were trying to say is Nuss could get that amount from 1 or more other teams. I think you are right and tend to think LSU should pay close to that to keep him.

a quarter of a million posts and the hits keep coming. One would think you would get better over time but nope......

I disagree with your analysis. I don't know that LSU can attract a QB substantially better than Nuss. If LSU cannot, why spend limited dollars on a high-priced backup QB? Use those dollars on an edge or safety.
It's not fear that is motivating Kelly, it's common sense.

BK had multiple opportunities to pursue more capable QBs in the portal last year, but didn't. He settled for Swann which posed no threat to Nussmeier starting. Whatever his reasoning is fine, but he has to live with it. The 2026 QB race will be very interesting.

If we are going to pay Underwood money we probably could have gotten Underwood.

It became obvious at some point we needed to stop with Underwood.

Perhaps you don’t pay attention to how this works in the MLB….a deal comes around and resets the market until the next guy. We bowed out of that race with Underwood, but i know I would leverage that if I knew I’d probably be preseason All SEC in the next year.

He’s going to get more than that and he will be back at LSU next year

I'm still waiting to hear who you think is better than Nuss in the portal right now. It's undeniable Nuss is just short of being a great QB as he has some bad tendencies. It can get ironed out easily with hard work prepping for next season, a good OL in front of him, and some actual help at WR which was disappointing this season.

I notice you haven't said any QBs because you know people are probably going to laugh at your opinion. You have some weird infatuation with thinking he's a bad QB when his team around him this year was really not good. One of the more disappointing WR groups in quite awhile at LSU alongside an inconsistent run game and a very bad interior OL he raked up pretty good stats in his first year starting.

His WRs dropped a lot of balls this year and he was terrified at times to get sacked due to how bad his interior is. Imagine pressing more as a QB trying to make something happen. It's almost like bad play is infectious when your teammates are not performing. He has capability to play at a high level that's undeniable. Whether or not he molds it like JD did remains to be seen.

The question is time. We're either looking for a freshman or sophomore to sit for 1 year and assume the QB1 role or a junior or senior to play in 2025. You don't want to take too much time to do what is necessary for the team. It would be nice if Nuss would let LSU know what he's thinking by asking for what he wants or telling LSU he's entering the draft. There shouldn't be much hesitation if you're going to the draft. The hold up would be negotiating for more money to play next season.

He probably has let him know what he’s thinking. I’m guessing he’s staying if they can some help at WR and OL from the portal. Waiting to see what happens.

definitely do not think he is bad.

Just because I don't think he isn't irreplaceable does not mean I think he is bad. That is a low IQ take and not something Ive said.

You know people track this, right

quote:

Of all P5 QBs Nussmeier /LSU was 24th best (out of 55) in average time to throw. So better than average.

Of all P5 QBs, Nussmeier/LSU was 22nd best (out of 55) in drop %. So again, better than average.

These are low hanging fruit excuses for people that cannot identify what actually happened.

We need an offensive line first then a quarterback, you saw how going the other way worked this year!

For run blocking only. Nuss basically had the best pass blocking OLINE in the country. His main issue is happy feet and not stepping up in the pocket. That’s something that he needs to work on before he can ever think of going pro. It’s his first year and he started coming around his last couple of games. DEFINITELY a major area of improvement needed for him to go pro.
