Long time reader of this board and first time poster. Life long LSU fan 1000 miles away in Chicago. I am traveling to New Orleans for the first time and for my second LSU game (2012 vs USCe). What are some places to check out, restaurants, or anything else that will be helpful? I’m 23 and will be coming with 3 other friends. Going to be a hard fought game but hoping to see an LSU championship in person

Post on the travel board or the food and drink board with this question. You will get much better responses.

Just stick to Bourbon Street and use Yelp. There’s much more to New Orleans (one of my favorite cities) than that but you won’t have time. You are in for an eye opening experience.

Walk around the French QTR. any place that looks crazy will be a good time. That is, unless you start seeing rainbows

Coops place, clesi's, and parkway bakery for food. Bayou beer and wine garden is a good spot. Bourbon is a shithole I'd avoid it.

The type of partying you and your friends are interested in will determine whether or not you continue down Bourbon once you reach Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop.

Disregard Pretty much all of this. While I do agree on Coop’s, Parkway is overrated, I could walk there from my house and I rarely go. I do like Clesi’s but there is no sense in coming all the way out to mid city for it, but if you do, wrong iron is better than bayou beer garden. Bourbon is touristy as hell and will be packed, but it is always super fun for big game weekends. Especially when it’s packed with tigers. There is tons more to do in NOLA but on a weekend like this stay downtown where all the action is.

Heres a few to consider...Have a drink at the sacerac bar/Roosevelt hotel(check out Huey Longs money box), walk out on the riverwalk and see the river/riverboats, wait in line for beignets at cafe du monde(cash only), HoB Gospel Brunch on Sunday(better get tix soon), go to the WW2 museum you like history, have a beer at the bulldog on magazine, dance on the pool table F&M around 2 am, Oysters at either Felixes/acme/cassementos/Capt eds.Tipitinas -Brass band playing sat night should be good, ride the streetcar end to end and maybe stop at the bend for a hangover Omelette at Camilia Grill, if you are a runner, run the street car line (without headphones). While you enjoy the city always stay together, don't urinate in the street and don't wander off the main areas or you will be lucky to be just robbed.Laissez les bons temps rouler

Their roast beef po-boy is one of the best sandwiches in the world. There's a shite ton of other places for that kind of food but I don't know how you wouldn't rank them near the top.

I live in Nola and NEVER go to Bourbon street. It’s just as touristy and smelly as advertised. That being said, I was there for the 2010 super bowl when the saints won and it was one of the greatest nights of my life. When we win, it’s where you’ll want to be.

This is only for the preps tho to be fair. Last I heard F&M's is a high-school bar now.

Edit: Good take on the other recommendations tho.

If you're going to the game, there should be a lot of pregame party activities going on in Champion Square adjacent to the Superdome.

Postgame victory....Bourbon St

Wrong Iron on the Greenway is a nice, laid back outdoor bar to hangout and drink Saturday or Sunday. Good place to catch the Saints game.

Restaurants - Drago's for seafood. Nice but fairly casual. For something a little fancier...G.W. Fins, August, or Galatoires. Walk-On's has decent food if you're looking to catch a quick bite and a few beers before walking over to the dome, but it'll probably get ridiculously packed closer to game time because of how close it is to the dome.

"Bourbon St. is too touristy"? Of course it is & the OP will be a tourist. For this game, this weekend, the French Quarter will be the place to be. Skip all the fancy, expensive, restaurants there as they will all be crowded with rich folks. There are a ton of hole -in - the - wall places to eat, with as good or better cheaper food. Coop's as one example, The Napoleon House another. Stay away from Luck Dog hot dogs scattered everywhere..once found a quarter in my dog. Stay off Canal St. after midnight. Stay together as a group. Ask your hotel how far down Bourbon St. is safe. Do not touch NOPD horses, who patrol throughout the Quarter. Do not piss on the streets. There should be La. State Troopers all over The Quarter, feel free to ask them any questions. Do not argue with NOPD officers: "Yes. Sir" and walk away. Do not drop your pants for beads ( yes, this happens & is an automatic arrest if caught). Get a geaux cup, not the glass ones,at Pat O'Briens & walk around, except for beer, your best price for booze. Drink a handgranade at your own risk. Keep your wallet/cash in your front pocket. Game Day go to the Dome areas there will be parties everywhere. Have some kind of "Chicago Tigers" shirt & you will eat & drink a lot for free at all the tailgates around the stadium.Post game / win go straight to The Quarter.
