Some of it is scheme. Some of it is players. Some of it is the other team just calling a great play but they need to cut them down.

It’s effort. Or lack of. Defense is not highly motivated on every play because our offense is so good.

I don’t know if it’s because of the offense but you’re right about effort. You can see countless examples of guys standing around and not hustling it’s been going on all season.

Yes they were highly recruited but they’re injured. A 5* player at 70% isn’t a 5* player.

first, it's not the entire board saying Aranda should be fired.
yeh, mistakes are made and you can say these are kids.
but, last week and this week Aranda's scheme is lacking.
we went down this road after 3 loses in a row 2015. ala CLM.
i hope these issues will be addressed and fixed.

You don't think the effort was there in Austin or vs UF, Auburn, or Bama?

IMO, that's an isolated thing and doesn't begin to explain the disturbing trend on D under Dave.

At this point, I'm of the persuasion that something is fundamentally flawed in Aranda's scheme. And the more astute OCs out there take advantage of it with relative ease.

If what he wants to do on D demands more talent than we have on hand this season then that he s in itself a problem.

The question becomes if the offense has any indication of consistent problems for a quarter, a half, or more in the SEC Championship or the playoffs, can this defense hold up enough to get us to victory. That's why there's concern and questioning.

1st half OM, 1st half Bama, 2nd half UF, basically all of the Auburn game. The defense has shut down SEC teams for decent stretches of most games. I feel confident that the defense can do enough for this offense to get it going regardless of opponent.

I'm not saying Aranda should be fired. He should just be demoted to defensive analyst for 250K instead of 2.5M.

His defenses are undoubtedly trending in the wrong direction since he became the DC at LSU. I'll listen to excuses for outlier games maybe even a season due to injuries but a decline from day 1 is a glaring stat that CANNOT be ignored!

Id be interested in the trend in overall scoring over that time. Surely we arent the only team that has improved our offense over that time frame.

Again, lets take a look at the national trends before we act like it only Aranda. I can say for sure that Saban would need to be demoted too based on your criteria. I wonder who else.

Miles, the administration the local media and the negative people in the fan base really hurt recruiting 2015 through 2018.

Appears to be fixed now. Although 2019 is not a great year for talent in Louisiana.

The DC has to be a big part of recruiting. Aranda passed on Christian Harris for example.

This year at least we have a true 3/4 nose tackle. Our Defensive line has been below SEC average for several, years. Our linebackers are SEC average. Safeties are vulnerable in coverage.. especially when we give QBs so much time to,throw. I do not think scheme is the problem. Against the Ole Miss option. Our players were out of position on each one of the big plays. We can call that coaching Player focus and Bama hangover probably big factor.

Our defense is going to get torched by Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State in the SEC champ and playoff games. It is unrealistic to expect otherwise.

Fortunately our offense can out score those teams.

I think we might as well have told our players to hit Plumlee on every running play..regardless if he has the ball or not. Next year we need to put his arse on the ground as often as possible.

Agree and like the ‘you're Not a genius’ because you pointed deficits out. Reminds me of the “Keep Your Eye on The Ball” fans in baseball...’no shite’

Those of us defending Aranda can see what the real issue is. There isn’t a defensive coordinator alive that could do any better than what Aranda has done with the players on defense that we have

that my friend is AN ASSUMPTION.

we plan well for the game, but we do not adjust well at halftime.
is the coaching staff soft and relying on the great offense ????
are we playing the second half as if TO NOT LOSE rather than to win ? soft schemes on 3rd down ?

Bill Johnson is not coaching up the DLine.

You can get all the 4 and 5 stars but you have to develop them, and what we have on the roster are not being developed. They have no ability to bring pressure without help and Ole Miss pushed their faces in all game in the run game. There has not been any evidence of any improvement at all.
Those that say no depth are prolly correct but that only really shows up 3rd quarter on.
Lots of big names in this upcoming class but no help today and will they be coached up?

We went through this the last few years with the Oline and lack of talent and numbers. Which could be coming around again with only one OG committed in this class with a couple coming off of redshirts.

Last season it was Stephens needs to be on the field. This year it’s brooks. We finally spied Plumlee and he made the tackle for a 2 yard gain.

With as much as We score I expect to give up around 28 just with the sure number of possessions the other team has. But, we just more consistency.

LSU's defensive stats since Aranda took over:

Year....Rank...Total YPG...Passing YPG...Rushing YPG...PTS/G
2016......5...........323.0..........201.2..............121.8..............16.4
2017.....16..........311.7..........185.3..............126.4..............18.8
2018.....22..........346.1..........206.8..............139.3..............20.9
2019.....44..........367.8..........237.0..............130.8..............23.8

Defensive rank declined each year.
Total Points/Game decline from 2017-2019.
Passing yds/ game decline from 2017-2019.
Rushing yds/ game decline from 2016-2018, better in 2019 even with 400yds vs OM!
