The last guard that had similar numbers also had similar facial expressions, especially at the FT line.

That's a Chris Jackson reference for those of you who weren't around back then.

First of all, I love Waters. He's the best all around PG at LSU since Chris Jackson.

However, if you want to ruffle a few feathers, compare those numbers to Ben Simmons

19 ppg, 4.8 APG, 11.8 RPG, 2.0 SPG, 56% FG%.

Point being, BOTH were great players. But one is vilified by LSU fans and the other is revered. They should both be recognized as probably the two best players at LSU in the last 10 years

Everyone agrees, Waters stepping up his game has elevated this team a lot, and is a big part of this win streak

I don't think anyone argues against Simmons being a great player at LSU (and if they do, they are complete morons). He just rubbed a lot of people the wrong way with his comments after he left here.

In general, Waters is very likable and Simmons was not in the eyes of a lot of fans.

This is a combination of a few things. Simmons and the team were perceived to have given up during that season. Simmons’ people forcing the team not to take the NIT bid rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way. The documentary made him look really bad. He made comments that made LSU look bad

A lot of that can be blamed on JJ in retrospect. But many of us still feel Simmons was part of the problem that year. A year that we were very talented and severely under performed

Jackson was more of a scorer. He averaged 4.1 and 3.2 assists and 1.7 and 1.6 steals a game. Points were 30 and 28.

ETA Also 82% and 91% FT, 49% and 46% FG, 39% and 36% 3P.

They did.

Halftime at the Alabama home game (2/17/16) was the meridian.

Because of his Tourette's syndrome?

It’s hard to confirm that they gave up. But I agree, I think they gave up that season. I said perceived so nobody gets all riled up trying to dispute it

I'll take Marcus Thornton over either. Easily.

Yep, and Jackson was playing out of position. He was more of a shooting guard.

Remember when a few of the Baton Rouge media guys were saying that Javonte should handle the point guard duties.

I laughed and said give Tremont time to form chemistry with the new team.

To clarify: Chris Jackson scored more but with about half the assists. Pete Maravich also scored more with comparable assists (fewer) but lower FG% and no three point line.

To clarify

That can't be right. He is a bit careless with the ball sometimes.

But nobody has ever sprinted up the court with reckless abandon like Tac Minor did.

I give lots of credit to Tremont of the rest of the team for the hard work they have put in to adjust to playing each other. Tremont should not break down this year like he did last year because he gained some weight, but mainly because he is not taking the pounding this year because he is able to dish the ball off instead of all the drives inside he took last year.

Teams trying to negate our speed, length and going zone has made Waters even more the focus of the Offense IMO. He can create, not only for himself, but others. Last year, he was the focus, and SEC defenses adjusted to limit his ability to create, getting the ball out of his hands. He seems, so far, to be better at splitting double teams, and beating the pressure, and has more threats over the top to keep them honest.
