Man I’ve gotta think this virtually guarantees all night games just because of all the different platforms they have to offer.
This is excellent news imo

Just in time for Gary Danielson to take over in the booth for Doug Moreau

I heard Fox is an underdog in this and could take it over

The overall coverage is excellent, the camera angles, mic placement, cut away shots.
Rantards hate cbs because of Gary and the commercials but it really is the best.

Yes more Herbstreit, Fowler, and Maria!

This is great. CBS has always sucked. Broadcasters, presentation, everything. Fowler and Herbstreit do a much better job. And night games will just be on ABC now. It is a win all the way around. I seriously doubt Gary and them go to ESPN. They like who they have now. No room for them. This is great news.

Something no one is taking into consideration is that ESPN and Fox have "Games of the Week" at noon.

They’ll probably just expand the SEC network a bit. Maybe add another game on that network. Possibly offer more games on ESPN3, as well.

No more 7 hour 230 games.
Let's slow the frick down here. TFA says that whoever wins is going to be bidding somewhere over 300 million a season for 15 or so games. This bidding is JUST for the right to air the first pick of the SEC games each week. It's literally for one game a week and whoever wins has got to make somewhere around 20 million bucks a week on advertising just to break even. There are going to be commercials everywhere. It may end up being worse than CBS because CBS is currently only paying something like 50 or 60 million a year.
Are you under the impression that whoever has the winning bid is going to pay that much to air that nationally televised game commercial free?
Personally, I think we need to hope Fox gets the rights, from a visibility standpoint. Having our marquee game nationally televised on over-the-air channels is a good thing, even if we have to tolerate Gary Danielson or someone like him. It gets eyes on our bigger programs that otherwise wouldn't see us as much. Burying our best games on pay to view channels may hurt our visibility in the long run, and that certainly can't be a good thing.

I am pretty sure if the reports are true that CBS has backed off from the table then that will give ESPN/ABC/Disney all they need to go in and make a run for the whole package. They are bidding for that game because ESPN already owns most of the other rights already with SEC network and such. I see them making a big push for the whole thing.

I suspect you're right. It would give them unbelievable flexibility in getting the most lucrative product in front of the largest audiences possible. It would help mitigate the costs to air the game, too (and the number of commercials) as they could spread the cost across all of the SEC games. From the "avoiding 7 hour long football games" standpoint, ESPN is the clear best choice because they could likely pay for it by adding a couple of commercial breaks to all their games instead of having to get it done during one.
