My backing of O in these situations have been based on us keeping most of the staff in place. The other reason is most arguments against him have been petty and don't make a ton of sense like the OP's argument about O having altercations with Canada. Other coaches have done far worse including publicly shaming coordinators like Saban did Dabol or whatever his name was. Everyone said that's a passionate coach who and praises him for it, but you look for reasons to not like O.
O ain't my first choice and would welcome someone better if it had a realistic chance of happening, but I'm not getting my hopes up before this season plays out or I'm not getting angry for no reason. A portion of you spam all these boards anytime another school even mentions a coaching change. I'm rolling with what we have and hope we beat every team on the schedule by 50. We lose Aranda then I will be a lot more concerned that I am right now.

No, it doesn’t apply when the guy is already here. This is the best outcome because prying a DC away from another program is a different animal.

I don’t care how I look. The point was pulling an elite guy from another school wasn’t going to happen.
Keeping our own elite guy was the only way it wasn’t going to be a big step down.
