I think Reid will be the biggest loss on D, by far, if he goes early.

You guys are forgetting one thing: the new NFL collective bargaining agreement and draft slotting. Unless you are a sure-fire top 20 pick, there isn't as much incentive to leave school early as there was 2 years ago. There aren't the same monster contracts for rookies that there were in years' past.

That is why I think we have a shot to retain Reid and Minter.

People killed me earlier when I said Mingo and Big Sam are late 1st and 2nd round picks. Mingo has great straight line speed, but struggles to redirect and breakdown and make the play, thus he overruns a lot of plays. This will hurt him because he is too small to play DE and everyone expects him to be able to play LB.

Bingo! There is a reason he did not play OLB for for us and it's not because we run 4-3. He did not start last year and four or five DE's besides him were in the rotation in Adams, Sam, lavar, Rasco, Aghayere. The glaring weakness of our defense was OLB. If he really could play the position he would have been playing it last year. He has no chance of playing DE because he almost is to thin to play OLB in the NFL. For someone to be drafted that high that averages 3 tackles a game and 1/3 of sack a game and will be playing a position that he was not very good at in high school is insane.

Don't know why people say minter's size don't translate to the nfl... What's wrong with his size?

please read the pro evaluations before you speculate. I'm quoting pro evaluations. So the PRO SCOUTS LIKE MINGO. ONE AS OF 2 WEEKS AGO HAD HIM #1 OVERALL IN THE DRAFT. But of course people on the rant are much more knowledgable then the pro scouts!

Tim actually doesn't have great numbers this year fwiw. Few sacks or TFL, although when he really comes, he's tough to block.

Love your optimism. Your suggestion of using AJ on the outside? You should think before you post.

I agree, He is a very one dimisinal player right now. Good tall thin straight line speed rusher. Really needs another year, like Montgomery, to put on some weight and develop his game. Late 1st, probably 2nd round pick right now.

People quit using the internet to substantiate your arguments. Its not a good way to diagnose yourself either. Mingo is NOT big enough to play DE. He never gets to the QB because the offensive lineman puch him arounfd. His only move his pure speed around the edge which rarely works either because he over runs the play. I love the guy and glad he's one our team but he's not an NFL DE. LB maybe. He's really not quick side to side so not suere there either. And Sam is the LAST person of the snap every play. Go rewatch a game. Not exaggerating every play.
