NIL related. Will LSU sell licensed merch with names, numbers of current players?

With news today that Ohio State has entered a licensing program that allows student athletes to profit off of sales, feel like these things need to be done to keep up with recruiting. This agreement is not only for jerseys. It includes other merchandise such as apparel, bobble heads, trading cards and video games, paving the way for the way for athletes to be included in EA Sports College Football in a few years.

I’m sure we will, as will every other school if they want to keep up.

I'm not sure LA's statute permits it.

I actually think it would be cool for my kids to pick a favorite player every Dre years and be able to get their jersey.

Who knows, my chunk may love Ed Ingram and want the O Linemen jersey.

It would be pretty advantageous for the university to all this. They can make money and players can make money off of jerseys and tshirts.

Totally True.

Corporations are paying big dollars for the right to utilize university marks. Won’t allow a player to promote a competitive product using university marks. Not allowed in the pros either. Players have individual deals, but don’t use team logos.

It’s Name Image Likeness for the player, NOT the university.

Slight clarification. I guess university usage may be allowed IF product doesn’t compete with company that is sponsoring university.

This NIL war is going to be such a gimmicky timeline. This is going to suck.

You are wrong, Louisiana’s NIL law allows the player to use LSU marks of the school approves.

More than likely just sell the shirt with the number like always but give a bit of the $ to the current player wearing it for their NIL.

If it is just the jersey with a number then NIL does not apply.

They’re probably doing that just to make sure an LSU player sponsored by adidas isn’t promoting adidas LSU clothes, since we’re sponsored by Nike. I’m sure they’re going to allow players to use LSU marks, as long as it’s in Nike clothing

Thinking about jerseys specifically, how does that work? I’m assuming the players get paid a royalty directly from the apparel company, so the school is somewhat at arms length? Can the school sell player-branded jerseys at university-owned gift shops?

Just curious.
