I give Saban full credit for building our program into a success while he was coach. I also give Les Miles full credit for continuing the great football program we have today. I also give Saban full credit for how poorly he handled his leaving LSU and then becoming the head coach at Alabama. I'd like to know if he enjoys having LSU in the West with his new team Alabama?

LOL at the short sighted people who only look at the W/L column to try to judge Saban's impact on LSU.
He brought national visibility, the Academic Center, high profile recruits and NFL interest to the program. Teams feared LSU because of it. We began to be looked at as a top tier program because of the level of professionalism and winning attitude that he brought to the University.
This is not a Saban vs. Miles point, just think about the changes that he made to the system, the attitude and the process here and you will appreciate it.

Thanks Coach Nick for turning our program around and building the monster that is now LSU football. And to you posters who fail to recognize where we came from as a program. You are either to young to remember or you are just plain ignorant. Thanks again Coach Saban. We wouldn't be where we are now without you.

DiNardo got the ball rolling in returning LSU back to being a respected program in college football.
Saban made LSU a national force. The man knows how to take a program from average to elite. There's no disputing that.
Any LSU fan that tries to discredit or doesn't appreciate what he and his staff did are lying to themselves.
Finally some sanity.
LSU was NEVER a powerhouse in college football until the 2000s. Generally a tough out, yes, but never a consistent powerhouse.
And if you forgot the 1990s, then good for you because there's nothing there to savor. A record of 54-58-1.
DiNardo? Five years and his high-water mark is winning the Peach Bowl? And if he was doing such a fabulous job recruiting he sure must have sucked as a coach. He was 7-15 in his last two seasons, including 3-13 in the SEC.
LSU was fortunate to get Saban and he did a great job. Same holds true for Miles. Very different men but both can recruit and coach, and both can lead programs at a very high level.
Why is it so hard for people to simply admit this?

It really was a joint effort and aligning of the stars. Nick Saban inherited a program that was finally starting to lock down in-state football talent. But, it was very under utilized as a football program.
Nick built on DiNardo's success and continued to lock down the state. The stars were aligned when Emmert, Saban, and the TAF were willing and in agreement about how to spend money to bring LSU to the next level. They worked together to build some of the greatest facilities in the country, which has only furthered the success of the program.
Any number of things could have derailed the climb to success: Emmert, Skip, Saban, TAF, donors. If any of them were short sighted and didn't see the true potential, things could be different. If they weren't willing to spend the money, raise ticket prices, and do a host of other things, we wouldn't be here today.
Lastly, a lot of it comes down to the players. You pull in a guy like Kevin Faulk, it completely changes your program. Then, Saban pulls a class of Michael Clayton, Marquise Hill, Marcus Spears, Rudy Niswanger, Andrew Whitworth from in-state. That is a game changer.
And, then Les Miles.
Just to name a few. Everything came together perfectly. And there are tons of people to thank. People that hire coaches, people that spend money on coaches and facilities, donors that have spent a ton of money, coaches that have come and gone, and great players.
If you remove any one of those things, we wouldn't be where we are. To say it is one person (Saban or Miles) is just plain ignorant.

Actually right in the sense he "started building the recruiting fence" but it had significant gaps worthy of mention. Dinardo hated the two-sport athlete(see Kennison) thus some of the best two-sport players left the state.
Henry clashed w/ Dinardo over Kennison and Chris Collins. Enough clash that they had to meet w/ the AD. DiNardo won, but only after Kennison left.
Saban embraced two-sport players even to the point of attending the NCAA track championship at LSU to support his players. He went crazy(happy) at the end of the 400m hurdles when Bazille(sp??), I think, finished top-3 or 4.

Exactly. Nick did a great job here, but he was more a part of the turn around as responsible for it.
