Anyone have any guesses on who our next basketball coach will be? I wasn't sold on McMahon when we hired him but didn't know enough about him to make a fair judgement. We'll be lucky to win 4 games in the SEC this year, which means it's time for him to go, so who is replacement gonna be?

lol. McMahon has had to deal with Wade’s frick ups. His first recruiting class outside of the specter of sanctions looks good.

All you Wade frick boys and other “Fire the coach!” folks better get used to it.

Matt McMahon is not officially on the clock until next season.

In all honesty, Woodward will have to pay a lot to get a big name because basketball has to be fixed, especially with a new arena coming up.

The dream hire is Jay Wright, because I don't see him staying retired. Outside of him, is Tony Bennett burnt out being at Virginia...and of course, does Scott Drew want to take on a new challenge.

Wade has outclassed Woody and McMahon in his first year at McNeese. That makes the people saying that Wade's ghost at LSU explains the poor performance by McMahon unbelievable.

Anyone who would fire Wade and Hire Mac, should not be trusted to hire another Basketball Coach.
Let the fans vote. They have more credibility than Woody and Tate.

Yea, that sounds like a great idea. Dear Lord...we have some special kinds of morons on this board.

Doesn’t matter until we decide we want to compete in the sport and invest actual resources into it.

Where to start?

His first HS signing class will likely be ranked HIGHER than where the current class finishes up. His first signing class was actually the best thing he did in his first season. Yet, 1.5 years later 50% of that class is already gone and the two best players haven’t developed much at all under McMahon. So even if he does sign a good class this season what evidence is there he will be able to get results out of it?

As for “dealing with Wade’s frick ups”, this is fully McMahon’s roster. There are only two players on this team who played for Wade. And one (Cook) may be this team’s best player. In this age of the freedom of transfer McMahon is not the only new HC who has inherited a depleted roster. Yet, arguably every other HC who did so was able to quickly produce better results with a new roster.

I also don’t understand why “year three” is some benchmark where the evaluation can begin? That’s an antiquated way of looking at the situation from an era of college basketball that no longer exists. The transfer rules have completely changed college basketball. So the way coaches should be evaluated must change as well.

If LSU finishes at or near the bottom of the SEC once more McMahon is going to have to put together largely a brand new roster again next year. Likely anywhere from 7-10 new players again. Gone are the days where a coach stacks recruiting classes to develop a young team that struggles into a group of grizzled vets. So essentially you’d be placing your hope that McMahon could do in year three what he could not do in his first 2 season…build a roster and win. Only now, LSU would be an even less attractive destination for good players. With LESS talent why would should anyone expect he could suddenly win?

Year three would just be an unnecessary waste of time to confirm what two seasons have already told you…the guy can’t win here. So why waste that year? Just acknowledge it wasn’t a good fit for all and go about trying to improve the program.

IMO, the next 2.5 months are all the evaluation you need for next season. If McMahon can show he can compete in the SEC and there is reason to believe progress is possible then he will earn year 3. If not, stop wasting time and move on

I don’t see many victories past Vandy and Georgia. That 4 games, but I doubt we win all 4. After that, you’d have to hope to catch someone cold or you get red hot from 3. I’ve seen Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and South Carolina. I don’t think we can win any of those

How many games do you think we're going to win? No matter how hopeful you try to be about it, we are not a good team.
