Newsflash for those that think we're in a decline

The program is EXACTLY where Saban left it in 2004--assuming we lose the Bowl game b/c he did(on a coaching gaff nonetheless). Chill out--you guys are no fun to be around.
Quit ignoring the facts to support your agenda. Can you just enjoy the fact that we got alot better than last year and have a great shot at a top ten finish?
Declining programs get WORSE---from where I'm sitting 9-3 > 7-5.
Don't give me this "yeah, but we could've lost two or three more easily" bullshite. We didn't lose. Good teams, good players, and good coaching find ways to win. Winning the close games is a GOOD thing.
Recruit like hell, fix some coahing problems and we're good. Miles has done a good job of fixing problems in offseasons, so give it a chance.
I'm not a Miles apologist, but be realistic---he's going nowhere and bitching everyday is no way to go through life

You forgot one thing! Saban is freaking 24-2 in the last 2 years!
Don't give me the same lame excuse of "Get over Saban he isn't coming back" I know he isn't going to coach at LSU anymore but anyone who thinks Miles is on par with Saban as a HC has their head in the freaking mud..

well, the case could be made that Saban is doing a better job at Alabama than at LSU. His third team at LSU was mediocre at best. His third team at Alabama is one game from the title game.

Question for the OP. Did Saban have to fire his OC and DC in successive years for lack of performance?
If firing your two primary assistants in successive years isn't a sign of decline, I don't know what is.

Bout to be 24-3, which isn't lightyears ahead of what Miles did as well.

I would say it's a sign that you're addressing the factors that are causing you to underperform. Not firing them would indicate more a decline in the program.

Why dont you compare the state of LSUs program when freaking Miles stepped in to LSU's and Bama's when Saban stepped in.
Miles is nowhere close to saban or meyer. Hes a 2nd tier coach in this conference living off of great recruiting a decent coordinator hire every now and then.

Hell, Saban is on his 2nd or 3rd OC at Bama. Are they in decline? That is a stupid conclusion to draw.

So, you see this is a great OPPORTUNITY for Miles, rather than a recent downward trend that he is RESPONSIBLE for?
I am looking forward to see which assistant(s) are offered up as next year's sacrificial lambs. Certainly, someone other than Miles will continue to be responsible for any shortcomings in the future.

And still hasn't won 'the big one'. Or really gotten in it. If he 'falls short' again this year, I'm not sure which coach (Miles or Saban)has a worse 'expectation to reality' ratio.

No, it isn't. It's a perfect conclusion to draw. When your Defense is terrible, and the next year your Offense is terrible, what other conclusion can you draw?

his DC split last year and there are rumors that Smart is tired of working for Lord Saban as well...

Ur an idiot saban had just lost NC talent from the year before.
Ok, so which is it:
1. Saban's excuse for a 9-3 2004 is that he lost NC talent from 2003.
or
2. Miles only won because of Saban's talent.

Did you miss the part where I typed, "for lack of performance?"
I know Saban is a huge prick. That was pretty much common knowledge around LSU during his tenure here. He had a track record of running his staff off.
The point of the post is that that OP claims we are not in decline. Perhaps I should phrase it differently. If you alternate between having a terrible defense and a terrible offense in successive years, what kind of trend are you on? A good one, or a bad one?

Some of you guys are comparing apples and oranges. Is Saban a better coach than Miles? I'm sure most would agree but thats not the topic. What's the state of the program, even compared to when Saban left? And don't try to compare what the program was like when Saban arrived, again apples to oranges. I like Miles, not thrilled, but when I look at the LSU football program when Saban left compared to today I don't see much difference. You can debate who's a better coach but as far as wins, recruiting, and what's attainable in the near future, not much difference in my opinion.

Lou tepper could be Saban's DC and it wouldn't matter. Saban brings something to the table. DEFENSE. His DC is a non issue, all saban needs to be successful is a good OC. Miles has to have 2 top coordintors and will still drop at least 2 games.
What does Miles bring to the table? Oline coaching? Great morals? A clean program, see DJ McCarthy? Give me a fricking break.

no, I see it as him doing his job, which is to try to make the program the best it can be. Whether, or not, he's successful at that remains to be seen...

People who watch the actual game instead of the scores/highlights on ESPN disagree.
