It’s very disappointing to try to find role models for a preteen daughter in soccer- we would love to watch the USWNT but Rapinoe has made that unbearable. I would have never thought our hometown school would do the same.

Watch the Paraguay match if it gets re-aired. Rap was injured and didn't play. Lloyd was the star of the show.

I would say that exact same thing if Max Johnson wore a MAGA hat to walk down the hill before the game. Most sane people don’t want other people’s political views shoved in their face when they’re at a sporting event. Now if an athlete wants to post their beliefs on their Twitter, Instagram or whatever, idc about that at all. They’re allowed to have their opinion but there’s a time and place for that. It’s more of a “hey, look at me” move than anything else.

Bunch of grown adults going to watch women's soccer? Weird.

They bitch about needing more pub and more people watching to have more money. And when you build up a following because you are actually playing well, don’t throw it away with political bullshite.

No one wants to see some entitled broads bitch about police brutality in a city with high murder rates.

Watched part of the game. I don’t particularly enjoy soccer but it was entertaining, especially with the field conditions.

Ended up watch more of the LSU woman’s soccer game than the Football game in ESPN partially due to all the commercials.

Well who do they believe are oppressed?we’ve had a giant court case over women soccer players being oppressed when in reality they chose their contracts that lead to some of them actually making more than the men.

This is what annoys me most about this topic. All these young kids act like America is the only nation on earth to have a history of slavery/racism. Watch European soccer and to this day black players are still getting racist chants thrown their way almost every match. But yet those players still stand and sing their countries anthem with pride bc they’re grateful to live in a country that gives them the opportunity to live their dream of playing soccer. They also realize a few racist a-holes doesn’t represent the majority of the country. Kids in America today have NO IDEA what oppression actually is.

Lots of snowflakes in this thread. Wow.

Good for the women’s soccer team. Hopefully they continue their run. Always great to see a LSU team playing well on a National stage, regardless of sport.

Don't forget it was free admission and Youth Soccer Night which contributed mightily toward the ballooned attendance.

they kneeled for anthem

I thought about going but went to dinner with a friend of mine instead. Tried watching on SEC Network but got bored and watched the football game on ESPN and FS1.

As far as the kneeling for the anthem, I don’t understand why players do it. It’s their choice but, as a retired military member, I don’t have to support it. I doubt that I give up a Friday night to go watch an LSU Women’s Soccer game. I’ll continue to stand at attention and salute the flag when the Anthem is played…that’s my choice.

This and other theatrics that is not germane to the game have no business at a State University athletic facility at any time during the event. Take it elsewhere.

Well they’ve ran those in the past too so it’s a pretty dumb point to make.

I took a look at the replay, and it showed both teams kneeling for about five seconds just before the start of the game. The teams were already on the field, clearly after the national anthem, and the announcers said what took place was a 'show of unity'. Is this the kneeling the OP referenced or did LSU kneel when the national anthem was played, too? The national anthem was not shown on the replay.

For me, kneeling with the other team the way it was shown on the telecast is different than kneeling during the national anthem, which is something many people view as disrespectful.

It has no place at an athletic event where spectators expect to see a soccer match. They don't come to get preached to. Seeing so many people making excuses for this type of opportunistic force-feeding of political visuals is disappointing.

Nah. If all the two teams did was kneel for five seconds before the game started then its actually a concession that kneeling during the national anthem is disrespectful. You can call that making excuses if you want, but you can also call a bowl of chocolate pudding a pile of shite. Doesn't make it true.
