I haven't looked at any statistics or anything and am just wondering whether the change in baseballs this year have made much of a difference in the college game?....

Probably but as far as the Tigers are concerned, i would say our hitting coach has made a more difference then the balls have.

Yes. I think they have gone a long way in solving the problem of a complete lack of offense. The current bats and balls may be a good compromise.

Home run numbers are up while batting average is around the same. I believe strike out numbers are up as well.

I'm wondering if the ball hasn't caused a few more errors. It seems like some of the defensive players are having trouble holding on to the ball.

LSU finished last season around a 0.41 in Home Runs per Game

They are closer to 0.92 this season.

Yeah, it has, tremendously! The game is fun again!

Just imagine what Javi could have done with the new baseballs.

Here's a report on it. It's about a week old but gives the basics. Looks like HR's are up about 39 percent, strikeouts up about 10 1/2 percent. Runs per game up about 5 percent and batting average about the same.

Stats on new baseballs

Do the pitchers get more break on the curveballs?

I trust this is sarcasm.

One extra home run every two games. Meh.

I think I saw where runs scored was up 5%. Again, meh.

The game needs a jolt of offense to make it watchable again. The new ball may be helping marginally, but nowhere near what's needed.

Personally I don't think they've made enough of a difference to make the sport better for the consumer. LSU fans may think so because our offense is good. Well yea, we have the best hitting team in the country...... That's not the balls.

Most stats show statistically insignificant improvements in batting average and runs. However there is a statistically significant improvement in homeruns. Still not very many HRs being hit but at least I guess the balls did what they were suppose to.

Right. From an LSU fan perspective, the balls seemingly made a big difference. The truth is that we are just hitting very well this year, so its easy to say it's the new ball. I like what it has done for the pitching.

Do you know the HR/game numbers from the 90s?
