re: Never felt better about a team than this year

quote:Having another year with Chief, I don't have as much worry with D and look for more DL pressure to help secondary.
The lowered expectations, all the players coming back plus infusion of more talent on defense is a setup for the perfect storm.
The O could take some time to gel with 1st season OC, timing, etc. LSU needs to get by TCU and should have time to acclimate before UGA.

After reading all the post, there's not much else to say...but, Go Tigers!

When we lost twice to unranked teams?

Our D will be fine by game 5 or so. I think our offense will have to help the D for awhile early... especially against UGA.

I don't know why everyone is so worried about the DE position. We have 4 players with big time potential, talent and experience. J. Rasco,
J. Allen, and J. Maclin are all juniors. D. Hunter, Soph. Then we have 3 young studs looking for some PT, Bowers, Herron and Neal. I think we're as good to go there as DT.

I'm not too worried about the TCU game. I think LSU is pumped and ready for the game. It'll be sloppy for awhile, but I think the D and the run game win it for us late in the third. Every O faces the same challenge to find their identity. I think it will be much improved by GA. Still worried. Georgia will score in that game. Just have to minimize the mistakes which is what LSU does.

quote: I agree. Even with a young defense I really believe our offense is going to be able to score at will. WE ARE GOING TO SIMPLY OUTSCORE EVERY OPPONENT WE FACE THIS YEAR. This. This. This. When you have a good offense you don't need a good defense. QBs are always much better their 2nd year than the 1st. We will have a passing attack along with the running, and no one will be able to stop us, including Alabama.

Rasco - never been a starter (maybe once), has not shown much in the time that he has played, and is injured.
Allen - been here 3 years and done absolutely nothing. No starts and not much time.
Maclin - been here 3 years and done even less than Allen. No starts, not much time.
Hunter - been here one year, no starts, and when he did play some last year he was unremarkable.
Bowers - never taken a snap.
Herron - never taken a snap and has not made noise in camp.
Neal - never taken a snap and no noise.
So I think the concern is legit. Now, all of these guys have talent and potential. They may be the next great LSU defensive stars. However, right now they are no more than huge question marks.

I love a hungry LSU team coming in with not very high expectations.
I just really hope this team embraces being looked over, and plays with a chip on their shoulder.
There is nothing quite like watching the tigers when their passionate.
Get fired up

ESPN may be overlooking LSU, but the teams are not. Obviously TCU/LSU is pretty hyped and they're aware of our success. Georgia won't overlook us. We're one blown play from being in the SEC champ.

Same optimism here. Expecting a NC. Think biggest impact of Cam will be 4-5 more first downs a game. That will be huge for the D. Don't need super flashy, just 4-5 more sustained drives a game. Then Miles can bleed the clock and play smash all he wants. For a change, O will help the D. But not sure they will need it. Think the mix of talent, want, and experience will meld well and surprise most. Only Hope Miles adjust practice during the season to reflect less contact and fresher legs later in the season. Maybe Cam has an impact here as well.

The last time I felt nearly this good was before the 07 season and even then QB was a big question that was eventually answered early that season. People like to talk about 2011 but that team had lost PP7 and we still had JJ/JL
2007? So we'll lose two game? Bummer

1. I'm an optimist
2. I'm some what of a fair weather fan, don't have time for misery, and the weather the last 10 years has been fair to excellent if you're a Tiger Fan
3. Most important, we had three DE drafted this year with a fourth trying to hang on in Seattle. Mingo,1st, Monty,3rd, Edwards,5th and Chancey UDFA. Our top 4 DE last year could all be playing in the NFL this year. If one of our current DE's was outperforming those guys now in the NFL last year then they may not be back this year. Chavis thinks they're ready, I'm not worried

TAMU is a myth! They had a fluke year last season. They'll lose four games this year.
