It was most certainly not a myth vs every decent defense we played against this year we got beat up front. Wisky auburn Alabama Florida. We had the ball inside the 10 4 times vs Florida and couldn't gain a yard. The oline was avg at best. The only ppl whove considered the oline at the top is a pro football focus ranking the same ppl who ranked Sam Bradford in the top 3 QBS in the NFL this year.

Yes he did say he wanted a pocket passer in his first press conf after being announced as head coach not because this team needed it you made that up. He's been criticized for two weeks for saying we also need to recruit duel threat QBS. If you've read or listen to any form of LSU sports media you'd know he's come under fire for saying both. Regardless Etling is Mobil enough and will start next season because he will be the best QB on the roster.

If so it won't be at LSU and there's no reason to think he would succeed in any offense. Harris lacks accuracy and pocket presence he's not a college qb at the sec level for sure. Just because he was good in high school doesn't mean it'll translate to the sec.

I just hope that since the offense is changing, probably to the spread, that there is a legitimate competition for QB between all of them in spring practices.

After all, isn't this is one of the main reasons you have spring practices anyway?

If you think you need a mobile QB to run the spread you know nothing about football and should stop acting like you do.

A mobile QB is an added dimension but NOWHERE NEAR A NECESSITY.

The point of the spread is to force the defense to spread out as well which opens up the box and the running lanes for the qb OR RB

Sometimes defensive coordinators will understand that the spread is just trying to open them up inside and will stack the box anyways. This is why good OC's will constantly throw bubble screens, swing passes and other short routes to keep them honest and force them to open up the box.

In the spread a great running back can give you the exact same added dimension that a mobile qb can. It will force the defense to make a decision whether to open up to prevent the short passing game or put an extra defender in the box to close up the running lanes.

And in the spread the QB/OC can tell instantly by the defense alignment what they're going to do vs pro style which is just a huge clusterfrick of people on the box and is much more difficult for the QB/OC to read the defense.

Etling performed very, set records, and is out best QB who may have an AA season next year. This post is absurd.

Etling is an average runner with an average arm. I don't think he's a lock to win the job, especially when we don't know what offense they'll be running.

Also, saying he'll win the job is different than saying he should be the QB next year.

Anyone who thinks Etling "deserves" to get be the set starter next year must also be mad that Les Miles was fired.

For God's sake, move away from the same old thinking. I get thinking that the best QB will start, and that may be Etling. But, to say he WILL be the starter is very "status quo" and really a loser's mentality.

Winners make bold moves.

Etling will start next year . I thought he played great minus bama. He did enough in most games for LSU to be in a position to win. We ended up lossing 3 games we could of easily won. It sucks but it is what it is . Learn from it , get better .

Art Briles is not getting hired! Alleva has taken a lot of heat for how he's handled the HC search. He is not going to want to take on more criticism for hiring Briles

Well that's fine you can think that. But I'll just tell you no qb on our roster is as good as Etling and no true freshman that comes in will be either. I'll make a ban bet with anybody that nomatter the offense Danny Etling will be LSUs starter next season barring injury. His passer rating under coach O is exactly the same as Tommy Hodsons 2nd best season at LSU and his YPG and passer rating are both comfortably better than Matt Flynns. Our problem this year wasn't nearly QB.

Who els is gonna start? Etling last year had a better season than national champ Matt Flynn and a running QB has never beat sabans Alabama team so why would we change? The duel threat QB beating Bama is a myth every qb that's beat them has had huge passing games nobody has beat them with their legs.

Brandon Harris COULD excel in any offense. All the tools are there. The problem is, he has bad mechanics(doesn't square up and set his feet on throws). He also has never learned to throw short to intermediate routes; it's all split-finger fastballs. I love Brandon, but it's not the scheme holding him back. There are spread concepts that may help him(simplified reads and route tree), but make no mistake, Brandon Harris has only held himself back. Still wish him the best, because he is a great talent and a good kid

Harris should've been starting as a true freshman from the first game I think by now he'd be more comfortable but that didn't happen and I think his best bet is to transfer.

If they implemented it no more than 2/5 of the time , I'd be happy
