While the claim is complete BS, it’s actually a brilliant move by his attorney. They are aggressively going the “ he can’t coach any and needs all $54M” route.

Puts the LSU legal team in a bad spot.

The fact that he interviewed for the Penn St job and gave a commitment to them before they fired Franklin and then watch so many former players of his crap on him after his firing had nothing to do with the fact that no one wants to hire him is irrelevant. Him agreeing to 40% of his buyout to coach immediately had nothing to do with that either. But all of a sudden those job offers were pulled and he needs the whole buyout just doesn’t seem suspicious at all. As MN post of him kicking rocks suggest… kick rocks BK you POS.

You can shite on the man for a lot of things but sitting back at 64 collecting the money lsu is obligated to give him is not one of them. LSU was stupid to give out a 10 year contract.

Good

So you want LSU to pay him for another 6 years?

I don't understand the way some of you think.

This is why vetting people you hire is so important - especially TOP POSITIONS

Well if we didn’t formally terminate him, he obviously couldn’t sign a contract with another school, right?

I understand what they're doing, but I'm specifically talking about a potential buyout owed to LSU (if one is owed under the contract).

If no provision exists, then yeah it's all complete nonsense.

So.. two things:

1. As the other poster said, there’s nothing stopping his agent from negotiating with other teams while the paperwork gets filed (so to speak) at LSU.

2. The contract does include a buyout for termination by employee, which is $2 million after Jan. 1, 2024. Somewhat ironically, though, his contract stipulates that he doesn’t owe any buyout “if Scott Woodward is not actively employed as Director of Athletics for LSU.” So it’s a moot point.

ETA: The buyout for termination by employee is not the issue anyway. The argument would be that if he accepted another job, he would have forfeit the $53 million buyout owed by LSU because he would be the one terminating the contract.

But it’s a BS argument. The season hasn’t even ended yet. More jobs will come open, and only one of the P4 jobs that are already open has been filled. Seems like it’s just an attempt to set the table for his next year of vacation.

What are his lawyers supposed to say? They’re doing their job. He will get all money owed to him. LSU should just give him the money Spaht gave LSU for the buyout.

Who’s paying lsu attorneys, not Spaht. It’s just business. Be done with Kelly.

bullshite attorney playing games. Take a reduced buyout and remove the mitigation clause. LSU has the leverage here because his fatass wants to coach again.

He signed a contract that says LSU can future date the termination in the notification.

If he didn’t want that, he shouldn’t have signed the contract.

Are there still folks that doubt Kelly is trying to get his full buyout, and release from his mitigation duties?

Go ahead and get another job Brian. If that’s what you want, then it’s best for both parties and contemplated in your contract as such.

Complete piece of shite.
