Somewhat related question: while Woodward was at A&M, if he had offered Kelly, do you think he’d have been successful?

No

I think it's clear Brian Kelly's entire motivation for leaving Notre Dame was to go to a place at which he had a better chance to win at title. He saw LSU win a National Championship under our last 3 head coaches, 2 of which were buffoons, and it made sense to him.

So, no, I only think he would've left for programs with a very good track record and future chance of winning him a title before he retired.

Who cares what anyone thinks what happened is what happened. It was also about five or six of the coaches that everyone assumed that were in the mix that we we’re not even a conversation with

that was all Jimmy Sexton.

He floated the "10 years, $100m" for Saban to go to Texas until they actually made the offer, which Saban then got that final bump at Bama.

Now, everybody is at 10 years, $100m for a top coach.

If we offered him $13 million, he would have taken it. So I doubt we went after him. We would have had to pay out his remaining salary on top of this, that’s just sheer madness to get the guy you want.

He has no clue what he’s talking about. Only a select few knew what Woodward was thinking.

FIFY.

I have no insider info, but I don’t believe Dumbo was ever #1. CBK- “the whole process took less than a week”. Walker Howard (as posted previously) takes 1 visit other than LSU to ND.

My belief with nothing to go on, is that it did in fact take less than a week, but it wasn’t the week previous as everyone assumed. It was WEEKS before, after 0 was fired, and during the timeframe that Walker Howard went on a rando ND visit. The Howard’s showed zero signs of wavering from Walkers commitment. I think a call from Woody to Jamie may have taken place, something like, “u know the guy at ND right now? Why don’t y’all take a trip and see if u like him and let him talk to y’all about his process”. Just my idea of what happened and how. Either way, great job CBK and staff, and GDT’s!

Nobody on this board knows, nobody. If someone really knows and posting something, he’s lying. If Kelly was 5-5 today and Dumbo was 9-1, the word out of everybody’s mouth would be Woodward went after Dumbo HARD but he was set at staying at 4&8. All this talk is after the fact.

I believe, IMHO, that Woodward wanted him. Remember this; at the time all the talk was that Dumbo had 4&8 on a skyward trajectory and in a preseason Top 10 and favorite to make the playoffs. Plus Woodward went after him the moment 4&8 hired him. They were big buds for years and became buds while Dumbo and Woodward were at LSU together. To think Woodward didn’t go after Dumbo again is just whistling past the graveyard.

This.

Jimbo was my last choice. Aranda was my first. Kelly was a surprise.

I would have melted the frick down if Woodward would have hired Jumbo. Imagine the nightmare of having that obese disheveled beast on the LSU sidelines?

I firmly believe there was an agreement in principle between Kelly’s agent and Scott Woodward much earlier than anyone realizes and everything else was theatre

In November of 2006, Alabama fires Mike Shula. After a few start and stops, they agree in principle to have WV coach Rich Rodriguez as the next coach at Alabama.

On Dec 8th, Rodriguez then goes on TV and says he isn't leaving West Virginia.

Bama AD Mal Moore began to scramble and on December 21st, we see Saban declare he will not be the coach at Alabama.

LSU Fans rejoice and laugh at Bama's predicament.

Moore doubles down and throws everything he has at Saban. Within two weeks, Saban is the Alabama head coach. One year later, Rodriguez takes the Michigan job.

Safe to say Bama dodged a bullet with Rich Rod and Mal Moore goes from outhouse to Penthouse.

Jimbo was NOT offered to come back to LSU under Woodward. This information is direct from the primary source in BTR.

It never happened. Sexton leveraged LSU’s opening to get Jimbo more money from A&M. Liucci, principal of TexAgs, ran with it and a few national guys ran with it.

That’s it. There was no offer.

This is what I understood as well.

Jimbo inherited a load roster from Bobby Bowden

Listen, few dislike Jimbo as much as I do, but I have to bring some reality to your delusion. I'd be chagrin to think I let you continue to go through life so misinformed.

In the 5 seasons before Bobby stepped down, FSU went 38-27. In 2009, his last season, they went 7-6.

There was no "load(ed) roster" for Jimbo to take over.

In Jimbo's first year as the head coach of FSU, they went 10-4. 9-4 the next year, then 12-2. In his 4th year, FSU went 14-0 and won the MNC.

Any player on that 2013 roster that had also played for Bobby, would have to have been a RS Senior. That team had 13 seniors. 6 were regular contributors.

So, to say Jimbo only won with a "load(ed) roster" from Bobby is either misinformed or ignorant.

At least now, you have a choice as to which you choose to be.

The whirlwind courtship of Kelly by LSU took place over the course of about 10 days that included Thanksgiving weekend. Kelly, through his representatives, made several requests for additional resources and improvements at Notre Dame.

BK wasnt even contacted until close to Thanksgiving, well after O had been let go. Woodward waited Jimbo out, and then moved on
