First off, it should go without saying, but it doesn't matter how well you're playing in March. This is an extremely young team that WILL get better and will mature through this weekends loss and the upcoming SEC series losses.

One thing that I'm seeing is that the overreactions to this weekends sweep are outrageous. That is true, however the overreactions to pre-season hype after having 2 Freshmen weekend starters and Hess (who didn't exactly light up the world last season) on Friday night is just as absurd. To have an idea of what this team will be like after playing an opening week round robin and a series against Bryant.. come on.

The offense lost this series just as much as the pitchers did. With the experience that this offense returned, it was up to them to put up runs and help the pitching out. Pitching was definitely going to struggle this week with the young arms playing on the road for the first time this season.

1. Hess isn't a great weekend starter in the SEC.

2. Hess isn't a good Friday starter in the SEC.

Your Friday night guy should not routinely get hit like he does on the 2nd go around. Going 2-3 deep into the bullpen on Friday night is a recipe for disaster that I ultimately think cost LSU the series, although the offense was just to stagnant at times.

This team, IMO, still has the talent to win 19-21 SEC games. The SEC is top heavy with some really bad squads. LSU also draws Missouri which is a plus (should be a sweep).

Just be excited that we have some studs on this team. The arms will come around. Garza is going to get behind the plate and help with the steals. LSU is going to be in the post season.

The weekend rotation is going to take some time to get sorted out and it's going to take some time for the freshmen to settle in.

If Marceaux and Hill can live up to the hype, I'd like to see:

Friday: Marceaux
Saturday: Walker
Sunday: Hill
Mid-week: Henry

Long Relief: Gilbert, Hilliard, Beck
Situational/Short relief: Fontenot, George, Costello
Set up: Peterson
Closer: Hess

Good post. I think the pitching will be fine and I'm saying this because the depth is there this year unlike other years which will help as the year go on.

LSU is essentially going through spring training seeing how they want to use Marceaux, Henry, Hill, Walker. There is no spring training or exhibitions and we're seeing live how this is a work in progress especially with the youth on the mound.

We're seeing the freshmen struggle (Marceaux with his control this weekend) but also (Henry with his ability to completely shut down a team on the road for 3 innings).

I am a bit hesitant on Hess we're all waiting on him to have two great back to back outings.

I'm more concerned with the 7-9 in the lineup. Right now Broussard is not getting it done at the plate, Hughes to an extent. I don't think LSU can afford to have both hitting sub 0.250 if Mathis is struggling as well.

I think weekend starters in a few weeks will be Walker, Hill, Marceaux. Will be some shuffling around at the beginning of SEC play.

Well, when you're leaning on two freshmen weekend starters, Walker (who is a RS Soph) and a couple of other freshmen and sophomores in the pen, I think they are young. Just a different point of view, LE.

I'm just a little pissed that Paul didn't review the no-hit on the batter! He said today, "I didn't want the pitcher to be standing on the mound getting cold while they reviewed it." WTF????

It's a legitimate concern. I think he should have reviewed it, but I understand his logic.

Instead he left the pitcher in and gave up four runs... thanks to shoddy defense also.

Anyone that thinks Marceaux is ready to be a Friday night guy has not watched the last 2 weekends. Forget about the hype. He is a Tr. Fr and has been as bad or worse than Hess so far.

Agree with the OP. I said this in another thread this past weekend but in 2009 Illinois took 2/3 at the Box and in 2000 Houston sweeps at the Box. Both of those teams were not nearly as good as Texas at their place. Clearly those LSU teams were able to put things together for Championship seasons. Youth at pitching will always be a growing pain. We had 20 walks in the 1st two games. No team will win doing that, but that is also very fixable. The hitting will be better. Sometimes a slap in the face before conference play is just what a confident, talented team needs.

The fans complaining are the same fans that were jumping ship after this year's basketball team lost to FSU and Ok State, then two days later lost to Houston. They will be back on the bandwagon just like they are now with hoops.

Sounds like football lol. “We young, next year we coming” lol. This team isn’t young they have a lot of experience, but the game starts and stops with the guys on the mound. But time will tell

Given some people's reactions over the last couple of days, I want to preface this post with a few things:

No, I do not believe anyone should be fired.
No, I do not think the team sucks.
No, I do not think the season is over.

My thoughts:

1. Reid should be starting. Flip a coin to see who man's 2B between Hughes and Broussard. They're basically the same player at this point.

2. Dunn needs to sit Hess down and explain to him that he doesn't have to strike out 27 batters in a 9 inning game. If Hess can't accept it, move him to the pen where he can strike out 3 in an inning using 25 pitches without it being a problem.

3. If Hess moves to the pen, I'd like to see Walker in the Friday night spot. When he's healthy of course.

3. LSU needs to be less aggressive in early counts.

4. Beloso needs to get in the cage and learn how to drop a bunt down the 3rd base side. If he doesn't, that shift will never go away.

5. Dunn needs to get with his staff and have them work on holding runners. They aren't doing a good job of it, then they're slow to the plate. Mathis doesn't have the arm to cover both of these.

you must have not been at that game. Wind was whipping and the temp was dropping by the minute. It was a legit concern for sure.

Relying on frosh pitchers to stay consistent all year and not hit a wall towards the back end of the season is foolish. It will happen to Marceaux and Hill and I fear the arm troubles that we seem to have more often than not.

All you weak and non-competitive MA's that are perfectly "Fine" with the #1 ranked team in the country going into Austin and getting embarrassingly arse raped beyond submission have some kind of weird inferiority complex that embraces dysfunction.

about individuals that revel in the spectre of failure; most likely yall have never actually played any sports at any level and don't have that fire in your belly that makes you absolutely hate being embarrassed on the field.

"We'll be Fine"
"It's only March"
"That's/It's Baseball"
"Just wait till May"
