I told the short-version story of how my dad, my brother and myself attended the LSU-Alabama game when LSU defeated Alabama for the first time in Tiger stadium in 30 years (The Irony). My brother ordered a picture from Tiger Rag showing an aerial view of Tiger Stadium and a huge arrow showing where I sat with my Dad and Brother. My ticket stub was framed with the picture. My brother gave it to me as a Christmas present.

You got one hell of a brother, cause that is an awesome gift.

Great story, and just reinforces my impressions of both men.

I don't think anyone would argue that Les isn't a great guy.

I've always been very happy he's here

I met him at our freshman orientation in 2007. I got the same impression of him as everyone else in this thread. Great guy

I have never met Les Miles but I have met Nick Saban and here is my story. Back in the day when I was at school at LSU I worked at The Island golf course in Plaquemine. I lived in a house in Kenilworth at the time and would drive down Highland on my way to work early in the morning. The first year Saban was here before the season actually began, I was driving down Highland. Saban lived in that big house on Highland and pulled out in front of me in his white expedition. I had no idea who he was and while following him I realized there was some keys hanging out of the back of the tailgate. So I follow him to the athletic building to tell him about the keys. I pull up behind him and he gets out his car and I tell him about the keys. I still had no idea who he was at the time. He looks at the back of the car looks at me and goes take the keys out. He then proceeds to walk into the building without even saying thank you. When I finally saw him on the sideline I realized who the prick was. It then made sense to me why he had all the coaches wear light brown pants on the sideline and he wore dark brown. Just my story.

One quick comparison:

My daughter works at the GAP at Town Center.
Saban comes to shop at Christmas.
They close the store so he can shop alone.
Miles come to shop at Christmas.
My daughter notices a man in a sweatshirt scanning the sales racks wearing a sweatshirt and jeans. She asks him if she can help. She recognizes him as Miles. Miles then autographs a sales receipt for her to give me for Christmas. Pays for his purchase and moves on with no entourage or fanfare.

I met Les Miles two summers ago. There was a LSU banquet held at my casino. I was walking through the casino and looked up and he was right there. I stopped, introduced myself and shook his hand. I am not a fan of Miles as a coach, but I definitely left him with a different perspective. He was very genuine and easy to talk too.

While I'm still not a Miles fan, I can tell he is a good man and see why the players want to win for him. (and no, he wasn't gambling lol)

Great Story...I have one of my own:

Before a function where Saban was the speaker, about 4 to 5 guys (cooks, organizers) were taking pics with Saban behind the scenes. I was the second guy in line and stood next to Nicky to take the pic...The photographer took aim but stopped to adjust his camera. Thats when Saban had a fit...he 'huffed n puffed' and shook his head as if he was rolling his eyes. I thought to myself, "what an a-hole" and really felt uncomfortable.

Maybe he was focused on his speech and we should not have asked him for pics... but doesnt that kind of come with job?... He is a great coach but personally I would have handled it differently.

My personal story - Miles vs. Saban and the irony

great story....thanks for making me an even bigger fan of the man.

This morning I personally understand why the players want to play for coach Miles.

this will not sit well with the "he won with saban's players" crowd. in reality, he won with sabans and his recruits which he had coached and led for two years through hell and high water. his character and level of integrity coupled with his strong sense of loyalty is what sets him apart from saban. they are both very good at their chosen profession....one just approaches that vocation in a more human manner.

I appreciate that story.

As most here know I have supported Les Miles the last couple of years even though I think he has done some pretty stupid things, but I guess all coaches do.

I have always said Coach Miles is a class act and I think he is probably a great guy.

I met Coach Dye one night at a dinner in Birmingham. I was hesitant to approach him at first thinking that he was to important to talk to someone like me but I sucked it up and went over to introduce myself. Coach Dye talked to me about Alabama and Auburn football for almost an hour and he told me some of the most amazing Coach Bryant stories I have ever heard in my life.

I have always been a BAMA fan but after meeting Coach Dye that night I wouldn't have been disappointed one bit if I had a son that ended up playing for him at Auburn.

That night made me a Pat Dye fan for the rest of my life.

Coach MIles is a class act and he represents LSU well and y'all should be proud that he is your coach.

Yes, Les is a great guy who runs a clean program yada yada yada, but he is just not a very smart man and is a deeply flawed football coach....sorry that is the simple truth....

This thread needs to be stickied for all eternity.

He's a great man. And now he's given those loyalists the ammunition they need when people start calling him out.

3-3 against Meyer
2-2 against Saban

He can hang with the big boys in this league.

On top of that, who wants to guess what the 2005 season had looked like if we hadn't had a coaching change that year?

Great story!! Thanks for sharing it. There are stories out there of the differences as people of these two coaches. Stories like these of college coaching are awesome because it is still about the kids and the college environment more than it is about the business of football. Gotta love Miles for that. It's also a reason that college ball is infinitely better than the pros!!

I think Nick has A.D.D

His focus goes from one thing to next.

All part of the process that goes on his head.

He probably didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

Miles is a better person, no question. At least, that is the perception we get as fans.
