My "film study" of FSU

I just spent the last 3 hours watching most of the FSU game on youtube. Stopped in 4th quarter, was almost all backups in 4th quarter. I have never done anything like this but after watching the game yesterday I was suprisingly unimpressed by FSU and had to figure out why.
Here is my unbiased opinion.
Offense
-QB is solid. He can definitely deliver an accurate ball if he has time to sit in the pocket. Has decent speed and isnt scared of contact. Didnt seem to have elite agility though. His stats were 11/15 207 yards 0TD 0INT passing and 11 yards 1TD rushing. Was taken out of game in the middle of the 3rd to get backup some reps.
-They have 3 running backs that can play. #8 Ward being the main guy. He led the ACC in YPC last year. He is very quick but at 5'10' 190lbs lacks elite power. Other 2 running back #9 and #3 are good but also lack elite power and lack the agility that #8 has.
-WRs seem average. They have a 6'7" 200+lb guy with ok speed #14. Only got 2-3 targets in the game though. He did catch 1 deep ball. #88 seemed like he got the most targerts 6'3" 200lb guy that can play. No others really stood out. Duequense Dbs did not challenge them at all.
-TEs are average at best. They did not seem to be a passing threat at all. The 2 that played the most #85 and #45 both seemed to be slower blocking TEs. And their blocking was average at best also.
-Oline was by far the worst group on the offense and the team. They looked slow and very soft. #76 started at center and was getting pushed around by guys half his size. #75 switched to center on third series and played a bit better. They got very little push rushing the ball in the first half and RBs had to bounce outside or juke defenders at the LOS more times than not in the first half. Pass protection was average but really hard to tell with Duquense pitiful slow pass rush.
Defense
-Dline looked good but not great. The edge guys #5 and #9 are solid with decent speed to pash rush. Interior guys looked decent but didnt create a ton of movement up front. Did seem to rotate some guys so it seems they have a bit of depth at dline.
-LBs didnt stand out one way or the other. They just did their jobs. #33 was a guy that looked to have good size and speed but was not a starter in this game.
-DBs also did not stand out much one way or the other. They seemed to always be line up in the correct and never never miss an assignent. Duquense QB had horrible arm strength though and I think he could have had more completions if the ball had more zip on it to get to WRs before DBs closed in.
Overall FSU seems like a well coached teach, especially on defense they looked to know exactly where to line up and play their assignments. The lack of team physicality really stood out though. I watched football games all day yesterday and it was the softest game by a country mile. Maybe they were playing down to the oppenents.
My biased opinion.
FSU is a good but not great team. Thier physicality is nothing compared to a top half SEC team. LSU should be better than them at most if not all positions. I think this game could be similiar to the 2018 Miami game.

I don't have the expertise to study film, but I have an opinion.
If we don't beat Florida State by three TDs we should have saved the money and stuck with Orgeron.
We have equal or better talent at every position.

Dumb arse you read it. I wasn’t impressed with the Seminoles but we can’t compare our team with there’s until they play.

Don’t worry about it, BC. Some people just like being dicks for no reason.
I agreed with most of your assessments. FSU will need to be a lot for physical at the point of attack to have a chance against LSU. They also better hope their best CB, Cooper, is healthy for the game. He didn’t play yesterday and his replacements were sub-par. LSU’s WR’s will torch those guys.

Pretty good talent take

Everything is quick release Rely on athletes to make plays

Great job, thanks for the insight. I was leaning more towards the 2014 Wisconsin game where we won 28-24; however, the more I think on it, the more I think we win by 10 plus

I, for one, appreciate your post. Thank You.
There are some real asshats on this board; don't let them get you down.
Most LSU fans are great people, esp. face to face. It appears an anonymous message board allows some really shitty personality flaws to surface in some.
Thanks again for posting; post again as you actually ADDED something to this site.

And here is the problem with many of our so called “expert” fans.

Florida State's offense is built around the running game. They will not deviate and will run it regardless of the score or down and distance. LSU needs to jump out to a big lead and continue to pour it on. This isn't to say that once behind FSU can't catch up, but it will take them longer to do so without a dynamic passing attack.
If I'm House, I'm running a million tackling drills this week to mitigate yards after contact. FSU's offense is set up to get one on ones in space, so whoever gets there first needs to bring the ball carrier down.

Thanks for the game summary.

I am not reading all this. I'm sure it's a decent analysis but it is way to long.

This is pretty spot-on. FSU wants to spread you out and create angles in the running game. It’s a Malzahn influenced system. When the right players are running it, it’s difficult to defend. Luckily for LSU, FSU isn’t super talented on offense.

Yeah, if Cooper is out, they are going to get lit up. Johnny Wilson (if he's healthy) could be a problem for our db's. No matter what though, our D-line is going to WRECK FSU's oline.
