Yeah you can't just look at the stat cards for Hernandez/Arrambide, Hernandez has just looked notably more comfortable behind the plate than Arrambide so far. Arrambide has had A LOT of wild pitches/pitches get away from him when he's been in, which again doesnt show up against the catcher, but it just seems he's not quite as strong blocking vs. Hernandez right now.
It's a different story when most of your blocks only get away a few feet from you and runners dont advance vs. when your blocking results in a lot of balls getting 15-20 feet away from you and runners advance.

Hernandez has absolutely been better behind the plate. And his bat is coming along.
I think it's still important to work Arrambide in relatively often though. Even in conference.
Catcher has such a huge learning curve and every one of our options has some sort of adjustment to make. Whether it's not having played it much in a few years, coming from HS, or coming from JUCO. We knew it would be like this for the most part.
I'm happy Hernandez is starting to turn the corner though.

You can't take Stanfields defense off the field.
I consider Curiel, Pearson and Brown to be plus defenders.

Stanfield plays CF for a reason (he's considered the best-range wise at least)
Your opinion doesnt really matter there, reality is he's the starting CF

Stanfield is the fastest guy on the team
it's amazing he doesn't make stealing bases look easier. A lotta close calls and thrown out by Purdue Fort Wayne
quote:
He is hitting .343 with a .489 OBP. He leads the team in Ks which is why he is out the leadoff spot for now
He was a .275 hitter at Auburn which is probably good enough to be in the bottom of the order and pay a good defensive CF. But we also have options and if he ends up platooning because the others were just better at the plate then that wouldn't surprise me.
The .343 against the rag arms we've faced pre-conference isn't surprising. The amount of Ks is surprising and I would say that's not a great sign when you know the best arms are coming in SEC play.

Stanfield is 1 for 1 on the season in SB

Braswell was .255-.284/.365-.372 OBP hitter at South Carolina and hit .311/.411 here last season. Every season can be different.

If you havent noticed, Jay is not trying to "platoon" Stanfield in/out the lineup almost at all. He has started every game but 1 in a DH, and he still entered that game as a base runner late in the game. He's a bonafide starter, period.

Which team has a lineup full of SEC ready starters that you know are proven?
Tennessee sure looks like they'll be a better offense. I haven't had a chance to see all the teams yet but there are stalwarts returning on several.
Again, I am not saying we won't or can't. There are some teams you know can't get to a high level. At least it appears this year we have enough depth and tools for a good shot of finding a productive 9

Milam, Larson, Braswell, Jones & Stanfield have all done well against SEC pitching.
We have different standards. Jones needs protection. Braswell and Stanfield are bottom of the order hitters/production. The others are young and unproven. We see sophomore slumps all the time when kids have tape and opposing coaches understand their weaknesses. Larson struggles pretty badly against lefties. Milam came on late and has had an encouraging start, however, if he raked he wouldn't bat 8th in the order. I'm just saying there are question marks.
Our proven hitter last year when to the MLB and we really don't have anything like him on this team -- as of now.

He is. For now. May stick. May bat .260 and get the hook

Same for Curiel, it can happen to anyone....but the point is Stanfield and Curiel are not part of the OF rotation at all, nor will they be in the near future. They are both playing at a high enough level consistently.
Josh Pearson, Larson, Brown and Frey are the rotation guys in the OF/DH.

Don't argue with burreaux he's by far the.biggest idiot troll in the board. Not even an LSU fan..

Jones needs protection.
Why do you continue this argument? Is the argument Jones always had protection in previous season but not this year? Weird argument to make and it goes nowhere and doesnt make any sense. Jones has always produced here...and this year probably has the best protection he's EVER had here with Dickinson behind him mostly.

Braswell hit .311 here just this past season and Stanfield was pretty solid before coming here. It cant be argued they arent proven vs. SEC pitching, theyve both seen a lot of it and hit it just fine if not a high level from Braswell last season.

Milam and Larson saw tons of SEC pitching last season already...

Why? Is it because they scored 75 of their 128 runs on the season in 4 games against Hofstra and UNCA???
Show me the guys on their current roster who have ever hit .300 or better in the SEC. I’ll wait.

So the one game we didn't hit in concerns you more than the rest where we hit the shite out of the ball.
I think you're just the type that's always concerned

What have you seen from them to make you think that? Where's the rest of the teams? Surely there should be several returning SEC level hitters right?

There's only one standard. Can you hit SEC pitching. This isn't subjective

No it's not really about the results. We could be mashing the ball right at people, etc
But there have been some poor approaches etc too. Cold weather is a factor but that should be offset by seeing literally the worst collection of arms they will face all season

That's your opinion, but mine would be that it's early and we're playing subpar opponents
When the OF is one of the strengths of the team and only 4 can play (assuming DH), then there's obviously some shaking out that can happen. It's early yet
