Ok,how does that have anything to do with how consistent the offense has been so far?

Nobody is proven, that’s how. Jones is pretty proven when he has protection. Nobody else has much sample size at this level.

So when you see Omaha no-hit this lineup for 8 2/3 innings it’s concerning.

My point about consistency is that you have to try and project it forward to the conference games. I’ve seen enough (and noted above) that makes me concerned, and I’ve seen other signs that make me think they have a shot to get it together.

I think we actually have 2-3 guys in this line up that will be 10-15 home run type guys.

I agree. These have a solid chance:

Jones
Dickinson
Milam
Brown
Hernandez
Larson

It will depend on ABs for a couple of them.

What is "proven?"

Milam, Brown, Pearson, Larson, Braswell, Stanfield are all what I would consider proven as far as SEC play is concerned.

I would have never thought we’d see a lineup without Brown and Larson in it. I really think for us to be our best offensively we need one of these guys to have a big season.

When Josh is hot, he's hot, this was one of those weekends. Postseason Josh showed up

We have a great problem to have with Curiel, Stanfield, Brown, Frey, Larson and Josh Pearson in the OF all being starter quality somewhere in the lineup

Frey and Larson can alternate at DH depending on pitching matchup, Josh can work his way in there too and rotate with Jake Brown as an outfielder as well.

What does this mean? Not swinging at balls?

While nobody was going to hit like Tommy, both of them are an upgrade defensively.

This is the only push back I have. Tommy was awesome defensively at 3B last year and none of the guys this year have done anything to prove they are better than what Tommy gave us last year.

C- Positionally this is the biggest ? For this team right now IMO. It’s become a 2 horse race with Priester not getting much run early on. Neither has done much at the plate as of yet but I liked Hernandez’s ABs better this weekend. I still think the position is pretty open if either player gets hot.

It's Hernandez and its not particularly close. CA is going to be a great catcher one day but he definitely looks like a freshman behind the plate.

Luis on the other hand is squaring up the ball and gunning would be base steelers out left and right.

Yeah Luis is the pretty clear cut #1 catcher to me. I wonder if Jay still gives Arrambide a weekend start once conference play kicks in but to me I would start Arrambide midweek and have him as a backup on the weekend while Hernandez catches my weekend games.

Sometimes it is difficult to catch 3 games in a row every weekend, especially if we ever have doubleheaders, so wouldnt surprise me if Arrambide gets a start here and there but there's a pretty clear difference between the 2 of them behind the plate at this point.

To be consistent enough to win at a high level in the SEC?

We don’t know that.

That’s not to say they can’t or won’t be. We’ve seen many LSU teams that have had some signs of issues early that ended up limiting them in conference play, like last year’s offense

You can't take Stanfields defense off the field. And its not like he has been terrible at the plate.

Larson is the odd man out for now.

Again, I highly doubt there is going to be any set OF/DH at any point this entire season. We effectively have 6 starters out there and go with the hot hand at any point we choose to. Frey will DH against lefties probably, Josh/Larson will DH against righties while also Josh will rotate with Jake some in the OF. This will continue throughout the whole season.

Stanfield and Curiel are obviously locked into this lineup, neither will be taking many breaks this year unless either hits a severe roadblock. Stanfield is the fastest guy on the team bringing elite defense and the ability to turn singles/walks into doubles and doubles into triples. He is hitting .343 with a .489 OBP. He leads the team in Ks which is why he is out the leadoff spot for now but is a valuable piece not only in the lineup but also in the field.

I haven't looked at the numbers but i feel like too many balls are getting by Hernandez too. He gets lazy at times and easy catchable balls just squirt out of his glove

Which team has a lineup full of SEC ready starters that you know are proven? You just make up bullshite arguments to fit whatever narrative you want. Milam, Larson, Braswell, Jones & Stanfield have all done well against SEC pitching. Wtf are you even talking about?

the numbers

Luis has 2 PB (& 1 catchers interference) while CA surprisingly has no passed balls on his ledger

Must have been all wild pitches to CA (Eyanson has 5) but i feel like Luis has cleaned things up of late. Not to mention his hose. 3/6 runners cut down.

Tommy definitely improved from year one to two, but still has limited range. Braswell is a short stop playing third.

Often times a better fielder will make less “spectacular” plays since they get to more balls, and get to them quick enough to make them routine.

Love Tommy and grateful for his improvement, but the defensive ceiling at third is much much higher this season.
