Now it will officially known as the who pays the highest NIL college football sweepstakes.

For what it’s worth, even though it’s a different sport, the NY Yankees usually have the highest or 2nd highest payroll but unfortunately luring people based on financial incentives hasn’t worked out for them in quite some time. It’s a fair comparison to make the point that sports that operate with no salary cap don’t necessarily get dominated by those with the largest payrolls.

In MLB, there’s a huge sample size of 162 games where regression to the mean is expected. But in college football, a smaller sample size of games means improbable events can happen.

I think we’ll find that you can’t just buy championships (though having deep pockets helps). You also need good coaches and players interested in developing their skills rather than simply being paid for their skills.

I think some of this has to do with age and just life. Its been a gigantic hassle to attend games the past two years in addition to all the constant covid BS.

It's just felt better to go play golf or tennis on a saturday morning. Come home, cook a pot of food, and watch the game on the big screen with friends. There has been a whole lot more BS to deal with on a daily basis since 2019, so weekends have needed to be more laid back.

It's entertainment and priorities have shifted for a lot of people....NIL/transfers aside.

Shutting down the transfer portal would go a LONG way in restoring some of it. Pandora's box is open on the NIL so I don't see that getting any better.

I would settle for shutting down the transfer portal at this point.... hate it.

The transfer portal is nothing but a database that makes information more freely available. It isn't a cause of anything in and of itself. Guys transferred all the time before the portal existed.

The NIL crap along with players being able to transfer at will and the conferences and playoffs expanding, it’s safe to say CFBs best days are behind us. If the sec does that stupid pod thing when OU and Texas join, I’ll be bummed. Getting rid of rivalries that have been around for generations is just down right disappointing to me. I always thought I would take my kids to games in Death Valley against teams like FL Auburn and Bama.

I am completely with you. No putty that genie back in the bottle. The real loser is the athlete. They won’t get the work ethic out of it they otherwise would, and that will cost them later in life. Nothing in life is free and that will be a hard lesson for not all, but many.

I think it could be fine if it was capped. Each school get $2-5 million in NIL to spend a year or maybe each player is only allowed $50-75k max of NIL money per year something to that effect.Uncapped money, free agency with no restrictions, transferring within conference, etc etc is a not the way.At least not to have a chance at fair competition.Call it selfish, down vote all you want but giving an 18 year old 1.5 million is not going to get the results you wish for a lot of times. Also sets these kids up to be taken advantage of badly by people they think are close to them.If we waiting on the NCAA to fix it tho we will be waiting a long time and it will be too late

There were never transfers like what we see today say 3+ years ago.

I would never have envisioned a star player transferring from us to Bama. I know Phelon Jones did it after '08 but that was due to family health issues and Les had to release him. And he was a backup from AL.

If the NCAA doesn't undo some of the harm it has allowed to happen, many of us will be done with what used to be college sports, not the minor leagues.

That's not the portal though. That's due to rule changes.

The portal is just a list of names. The ease of communication that comes with the portal may be a small contributing factor, but the other rule changes are what is really driving the traffic.

The instant eligibility to play when you transfer has to be done away with now with NIL to stop the poaching of players while the season is still active and suddenly the player is "hurt" because he wants to go play with the other team that is offering more money...

Put one season sit-outs back in play and these players will think twice about transferring again.

I enjoy the old college football but ethically players deserve to do what they want just like we can with our jobs.

It’s not the players that ruined college football. It’s the media, universities and conferences that are greedy and made it a multi billion dollar business

The just out right public bidding process going on right now for Caleb Williams will be the downfall of NIL. Change will come it won’t always be this wild Wild West.

So ethically, let's destroy college football? That's what's happening. Everything this new generation touches goes to shite. Seriously, these guys have a paltway to great wealth with the opportunity they have at these colleges....so that's B's. They were fortunate and blessed with their athletic talent...and have a greater opportunity than most any student in the world. So spare me the poor college athlete bs.
