Most layups are going to bounce either off the backboard or at least touch the side of the rim. An overinflated, overly bouncy ball absolutely will impact layups.

Yep and layups at game speed require touch and the ball feels different when hyper inflated. Harder to control.

Back in the day a ball was tested by holding it out at at shoulder height, dropping it and then selecting it if it bounced back to waist level. Higher than waist level was over inflated, lower was under inflated. You then had to hope that someone had a hard to find inflation needle. Jump on your bicycle and head to the service station to use the air hose.

You didn't have an inexpensive hand pump?

It was a new ball introduced for the first time in last years first four. Very little use it in regular season play, and many have complained about the surface and inflation in men’s and women’s.

Another NCAA blunder. WHY IN THE HELL DO YOU CHANGE THE BALL FOR POSTSEASON. What a cluster-frick of an organization. There is no method to that madness, it's just straight madness.

Unless it’s a regional site thing, it Sure doesn’t seem to affect Caitlyn Clark’s shooting.

Back in the day, the refs used to drop a ball and if it did or didn't bounce back high enough.... they got another ball. But that was in the 80's.

Well, just remember one thing...if it was over inflated, it was the same ball being used by both teams.
I think both teams showed awful shooting as well as careless passing of that over inflated ball.
That may be true, but perhaps some teams like Iowa were aware of the problem and had their teams practicing with those balls well in advance of the tournament so that they could adjust to them and other teams like us and Miami have not figured that out yet.

It's a similar situation to gymnastics where one floor may have more or less bounce than others. Sure both teams have to use the same floor, but it's a big advantage for the team that's been practicing with similar equipmet.

Well yea, of course it doesn't affect Caitlyn Clark's shooting. An overinflated ball doesn't affect all net shots. Most women basketball players aren't Steff Curry with a uterus. She would have to hit rim or board for it to matter.

Alexis Morris complaints about ball warranted. But LSU should have adjusted and practiced with same ball as tournament. Some teams in other regional have commented about the ball and practicing with same during practice really helped them adjust for the feel especially for layups

Different make of balls. This one is a Wilson ball. Doesn't necessarily have to be the air but could be the type of rubber on ball that changes bounce on ball.

There have been complaints from both the men's and women's sides (players and coaches) about the NCAA tournament balls. The complaints range from the slickness, inflation, bounce, etc.

fricking fix it. Just use a normal everyday ball without all the bullshite logos. Men and women on both sides have an issue with it bouncing out of the rim. They will never admit it

Was there some truth to this? There were a few missed shots that flew back to the arch, and a few players simply losing the ball while just dribbling.

It was funny when she said if she was home watching this game, she would have turned it off.

She also said it in postgane presser.
Said the PG every tmeout would complain in the huddle about to much air in the balls.

I think both teams shot 1/27 from 3 point.

They knew coming in to the game LSU had one of the best offenses in the country. Really makes you wonder what exactly was going on with the overinflated balls.
And here we go...

Rooting hard for this team but they can't shoot.

3rd in the nation in points/game, following #1 Iowa (87.5) and #2 Oklahoma (84.5) LSU - (84.1)....Didn't shoot well last night, but kind of ignorant to think a final four team cant shoot.

I'm a believer the balls are juiced.

Morris laid a ball off the glass that rattled the rim and popped out. That looked suspicious.

But the main one that raised my eyebrows was a Reese free throw. She shot it straight but was about an inch too long. Ball hit the back rim and richocheted all the way back to the 3-point line. That didn't look right at all.

Before I knew anything was being said about the ball’s being over inflated, I told my wife the rims must not be level or something. Both teams were missing and the ball was bouncing off the backboard and would hit the front of the rim and not go in.
